Is soap redundant in today's society?

Who uses and buys soap? I mean a proper bar of soap. In war times it was rationed because people had no other means of washing, but in today's soceity who needs it?

I use shower gels and body scrubs to wash, is there any need for bars of soap?

On the other hand my fiancee insists that there is always a bar of soap on the bathroom sink, it's been there longer than I can remember. I don't really see its purpose anymore, apart from the fact it fits nicely into the indent of the sink.

I get through soap at a rate of about 1 bar a week, and only I use that! I like to use it when washing just my hands.
I have about 3 showers a day though, so all my toiletries are used often.
It has to be good stuff though, Dove cream stuff.

Erm, well if I'm washing my hands, I'm not likely to use shower gel or a body scrub, I use soap.

    So no, its not redundant.

Johnny, any special reason why you have 3 showers a day? Work in a job where you need to? OCD?

I hate bars of soap, they're slippery and make my hands feel strange.

I just prefer the gel type stuff in bottles.

I just use Shower Gels / Hand washes, there is a bar of soap in the bathroom but I hardly ever use it.

bars of soap are fine for washing your hands, but I use shower gels and shampoos in the shower, couldn't physically hold on to a bar of soap for long in the shower lol

I never use a bar of soap. Handwash for normal...hand washing. Shower gel for washing. Incidentally I never take baths, only showers - I find they leave you feeling cleaner and more refreshed.

One bar next to the bathroom sink, one next to the kitchen sink and usually one in the shower. I don't really like shower gell/liquid soaps unless i'm somewhere they have a dispenser on the wall, but i'm using a bottle of Dove body wash stuff at the moment to get rid of it. Just not the same as a bar of soap.

Got a bar of that green Fairy soap that your granny probably used for the kitchen when the existing one runs out. The smell reminds me of being little

Carex antiseptic on the hands, gel in the shower....man I haven't used bars of soap since I was a kid...imprerial leather with that irritating little piece of paper that used to come off and lodge itself places...

And you end up sharing soap and having to pick other people's body hair off it....yeah, super hygenic....Plus, using handsoap in really hard water is perhaps the most futile experience ever.

I used to use shower gel, but when I found that an 80p bottle of shower gel lasted about three weeks of showering every day, and a 25p bar of soap lasted over a month, tightness dictated that I switch. It gets you just as clean.

However in general soap use has declined in this country to the extent that the last soap manufacturer stopped making it in this country a couple of years ago.

Heh, I was wondering/thinking that too

At the moment* I'm using Palmolive shower gel that has these little bobbly bits in. Yes, it's expensive, but it feels nice

    * No, not right this second, I mean, for the past few weeks. Duh.

Lol no it's not a disorder. I have one when I get up, I do sport at least once a day, often twice, and just generally get dirty a lot!
It's just a lot of sport, really .

I barely even used bar-soap when I was little, and haven't at all for years now. Never liked using it, it's not just the hairs thing, I just don't like using it.
Liquid soaps for me all the way!
