I think we need a far more delicate balance of machines and nurses than we have now. ATM there's either too much equipment in a hospital, or too few nurses to actually make a difference. What we need to do is find that delicate point where everything will run smoothly again.
The biggest problem for the NHS is its sheer size - the numbers involved are utterly astronomical, and somewhere in the mist, people and resources are being squandered. Not on purpose, i'm sure, but by accident, simply from the left hand not knowing what the right hand is doing.
