Itd have to be a damn sight more than twice to get me doing that

Im currently planning a leeds-liverpool ride for in the easter holidays, should be suitably knackering, but the most ive ever done at the moment is 28 miles, but that was all (bar about a mile of it) off road, and quite muddy. I hate riding in mud, its nearly as bad as grass.

Yeah, the route I went was about 99.5% off road, in the mud.. so quite knackering, but was great fun .

Bad thing was I had to keep stopping every few miles because I had a slow puncture (got it about half way through to Whitby).

And you didnt have a spare tube? I wouldnt leave the house without at least:
Tube, puncture kit, pump, multitool, food, powerlinks and all the other crap that has accumulated in the bottom of my camelbak. Except for commuting obviuosly, when i just carry a tool and some of this stuff

Originally i was planning doing it on the canal, but so much of it is either closed or in tunnels i figure the pennine way is a better bet.

Took all that apart from a spare tube (that link looks great though, will look into getting that!), and since it was a slow puncture I couldn't be bothered to take the back wheel off and patch it up.

Just sorted my bike out, it was a small nail/carpet tack that was stuck in it. Hosed all the mud off it earlier today, oiled chain up, tightened bits up etc. Good as new again .

most knackering in a day? about 50 miles from sea level to 1500m in Tasmania, from Devonport to Cradle Mtn, in the summer. Winding, winding, up and up.

Also did a trip over the ridgeback in Taiwan, from sea level to 3200m and down the other side, along the coast, down to the southern tip. Took about 5 days, but was interesting in that it included tropical heat by coral seas, snow storms / blizzards, icy rain, 40 miles of freewheel downhill from the summit, pitch black tunnels, in mid winter.

    in my youth...........(sigh)
