Did it for 5 years, and like another Hexus member who shall remain nameless, ran my own branch.

High pressure jobs, long hours, in the right industry sectors (skilled) it can be highly lucrative, in the wrong sectors (unskilled) it can be highly unrewarding and fruitless, trying to employ the unemployable.

Staf turnover is also incredibly high in recruitment. In short, hard work, long hours and only worth doing in skilled sectors such as IT and engineering, and even then the competition is fierce and the markets saturated.

I gathered it's pretty hectic job. If a lot of money is coming from commissions whats the basic salary one can expect if they are starting out.

In short what qualities should you have apart from

    no morals
    worship commission

from friends I know who where in IT recruitment and clients I've had who where recruiters , its all about sales techniques.

You've got to be quite thick skinned to take the excrement you'll get

You've got to be preperared to get on the phone and make those calls - you'll spend a lot and I really do mean LOT on the phone.

some IT recrutiment places are very very hardcore - you wont even get a seat !

most of the time you start as a resourcer - yoiu'll spend time doing intial filtering of CV's ( many agencies have some goos software for this ) and generally being a dogsbody for the consultant.

think of the two parts of the job as getting the vacancies from the clients , then matching them to the right people on your books.

[simpsons] the *right* person is *your* person[/simpsons] ( marge as an estate agent )

I've always said that *shudders at memory of being married to one for 15 years*

If you have a wife/partner/small hamster, they should be prepared to see little of you and put up with your mobile ringing/you ringing people constantly.
