Another reason for using puts, the ANSI standard says puts should append a newline to the string

Bloody youngsters with your new fangled object oriented languages, it's standard C. In C++ you wouldn't use printf there, you'd use cout << "insert text here"; not printf. In fact, puts would be much more resource efficient than printf for echoing a plain string but that's just being pedantic

actually it's quite common to use printf in C++.

It's definitely c though: look at the include line.
