I'm pretty sure there was a case a couple of years ago where an off duty copper caused a fatal accident by texting while he was driving. It's far from unknown apparently.

I find it more worrying that you think the lanes are different speeds on a motorway the speed limit is 70, for all lanes, the right lane should only be used for overtaking

ah but i dont think thats what he means shelly, generally the left hand lane IS used as a slow lane - thats where the trucks, caravans and other slow vehicles generally are..the average flow tends to be about 60mph there The middle lane is usually faster, and the right for overtaking - or for most people it seems to be a place to speed like mad.

If you think driving with a mobile is dangerous I saw someone trying to use their laptop on the M3 Northbound yesterday...

He was wobbling all over the road and nearly running into the person in front several times.

Problem is it's not them that gets booked by the police, it's me trying to avoid them by overtaking!!!

    Grrr...

A law was passed around 2 yr ago now where if you are caught using a mobile phone whilst driving you can receive an on the spot fine.

Most of the Nokia phones now allow you to put the call onto a loudspeaker, so you just need to mount the phone on the dash. As well as that like mentioned Bluetoothj devices are now really cheap compared to a few year ago. I think that if you can afford to run a car then investing £20 in a Bluetooth device is nothing in the grand scheme of things.

Shelley nearly got hit by a wagon a few weeks back due to the driver approaching a junction whilst using a mobile and not stopping in time. If contact had been made he would have hit the front passenger which at the time was my 4 yr old son.

It happened to me just the other day... some berk on his mobile swung out too far coming off a roundabout.

I nearly dropped my sausage roll into my coffee!

    There's always one

Jade Goody got caught and had her picture taken texting while travelling at 50 miles per hour. She's apologised for it, but saying sorry isn't good enough really.

A car weighs what 1-2 tons and travelling at that sort of speed turns it into a killing machine. Attention should be 100% on the road, and not on texting and changing the radio.

I dont see how the police will ever catch anybody doing it and sort the problem out seeing as its another job that "saftey cameras" can't do and you need police patrols for.

The chances of getting caught are so low, most drivers don't care.

to be honest Jade Goody should be locked up and the key should be thrown away just for her sheer existance. (Where is East Angular? - is it abroad?)
