i'll give it a go then, i recon a good mouthful of diet coke and a mate to drop in several mentos should do the trick i'll get him to dig his vid cam out to film the action

The bottle explodes because the large volume of gas produced from the reaction exerts an increasing pressure on the container walls, until it's too great for the bottle to withstand, causing said explosion.
To get the same result in your mouth, as opposed to coke spewing out of your mouth after a few seconds when you can't hold it any longer, you might want to get said "friend" to duct tape up your mouth (and quite possibly nose...though I'm not a biologist ).
You may still get the air just going down your windpipe instead, and you may well not have enough coke in your mouth to react and create a sufficient volume of air, but needless to say, I wouldn't try it

As far as I can see its just the same as the old vinegar + baking soda trick - it's the phosphoric acid in the coke and some sort of base in the mentos. Have tried it - you should definitely stick all the mentos in and don't hold back. The first time we ony put a few in, nothing really happened and then it didn't work again.
