Right IMHO if you're got the £30 from NTL and £30 from Barclays, you won't be able to get any more from NTL.
Then to get Barclays back use the link above to claim back every charge they've put on your account. They are all supposed to be unenforcable under english law.
You can get 6 years of bank charges back with interest.
Companies behaving like this really annyos me TBH. Its their mess up, they can fix it. They just never do if there's no money to be made out of it.

I think pretty much all the information you need is in the answers so far. You should be covered under the DD Guarantee as far as the bank are concerned for refunded charges it is up to Barclays should they want to reclaim any expenses for all this from NTL, not you.

At the end of the day the charges Barclays have put on your account will cost them next to nothing to refund as they created them. They are not "losing" £30, just not gaining it from unfair charges. Also as a lot of people have said they are apparently not legally enforceable, so I don't see any reason why they would be allowed to keep them if you challenge it.

Be warned though, some banks you do this 6-year-refund thing on will close your account afterwards saying that action is a statement that you don't agree to the T&C's of the account. This may not be a problem if you are fine moving DD's and have no overdraft but if you are in the red they will demand you settle upon closure.

thatnks for all the replies, i am going in to the branch today to speak to somebody, there has been a direct debit of .80p a month for the last 5 or 6 years and i always thought it was overdraft interest/account charges, but it turns out that its some kind of insurance that i never even asked for, so thats going to be refunded, but i have to do it in person. ill see what they say about the charges, i wont be going back 6 years of bank charges because apart from this incident, i can only remember it happening twice before, and they were maybe 5 years ago, so not really worth having the account closed for, but ill see what they say.

    cheers

So far, only alliance and leicester have closed peoples accounts for doing this.
