    Are you in a trade union?

    If you are, you should probably speak to your union rep, and get some advice, as (s)he should be at least a knowlegable as someone at citizens advice, but would also be much more familar with arangements at your empolyer.

    Also, if your employer is trying to pull a fast one, your union rep should be able to smell it a mile off.

    This is correct.
    Income tax is calculated on total earnings for the year while National insurance is calculated on a week by week basis.

    really ? I was always under the impression you got a bit crucified with 2nd job tax too.

    You do, but because you've used up your tax free allowance on your first job you'll start at 22% - 40% tax for every penny on your 2nd job*

    Still, I'm awaiting someone to come here armed with links to the HMRC gov site to correct me
