    Zap the mosquito! ahhhhh

<rant mode> I am getting increasingly frustrated lately with that stupid annoying "zap the mosquito to win a laptop advert" I'm sure you have all come across it once or twice. Is there any software I can install to block that horrible high pitch "bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz".

Surely this has got to be the most annoying Internet ad in existence (wanting people to prove me wrong)

I mostly browse with the sound off but the ones that annoy me are the rollerover ones that suddenly become MASSIVE and it takes a few seconds to hit the close buttons because you have to find it first!

That's easy if it's a separate window, just right click the bit at the bottom(near the start button) and close... BOOM!, windom destroyed (sadly without the sound effects).

those are all the more frustrating here on Linux, as Flash 7 for Linux doesn't support transparency, and about half of these work by creating the full-size ad first, and making most of it transparent until you rollover (so on linux, you have a huge white rectangle filling a chunk of the screen, for the ad to go into)

Use Firefox? Install adblock and add that ad to the list.

It is a truly hideous advert, I sympathise.

oh man, this should be like a breach of something in advertisement legality, it messes up any song you are listening to > and just generally annoys the crap out of me

That ad i have to admit is very annoying, however most of the time i just decide to zap it. Due to firefox having a popup blocker i can just keep doing this until it stops making any noise (usually 2-3 times). I must add however this doesn't always work. GeorgeTuk had the best idea of browsing with the sound off but if you listen to music often then it gets really annoying. Its a bit like that high speed fan in your computer that needs a good oiling or lobing in the bin and getting another. Wish i could do that with this ad..
your computer is similar to a fridge in that if it cannot keep a beer cold then it sucks

YES! its about time. it makes a buzzing sound even when your nowhere near the banner. i dont know ho websites allow this poo to be there. iv closed pages i was going to read before because of that.

blockers are not the answer. there needs to be a downturn in traffic to websites that show it to truly eradicate it

I use a flash blocker to avoid sucking cpu cycles(G4 processors are slow and hot). It lets you click on them to see them, but normally just has a flash logo and no content.

I tend to go for flashblock, on the basis that while flash is great, most flash content out there isn't.

And you get to still get to click to load stuff that doesn't look suspiciously like an advert...
