At least he didn't lie and try and make himself out to be more interesting than he actually is.

We had one applicant for an After School Club leader who had stuck on her CV that She was Qualified to level 3 and had run an Out Of School Club in a private School and had lots of teaching experience in a Posh Pre-school setting.....

Reality was She was a level 2 and her "experience" of running a setting was standing in for a couple of days while her Manager was sick, and She last worked in a Pre-school 10-15 years ago for 6 months, She's been demoted to assistant and we won't let her near the Pre-school Children because She is rubbish, no sense of their needs and She's lazy, She's happy to sit and watch everyone else and has to be asked 2 or 3 times to do something.

exactly, playing computer games is one of many activities that should never be put on a CV, along with morris dancing, taxidermy, philately (will get you nowhere...), collecting Nazi paraphenalia or watching TV.

TBH anyone who would assert that their profiency at herding fellow dwarvish avatars round WoW in any way indicates management or organisational skills would only draw attention to their complete lack of real experience.

    I used to play Darkgalaxy!

If anybody here every played planetarium, it was like that.

I was in one of the biggest "alliances" called Federation of Planets and fairly senior.

I enjoyied it immensley, but one day and woke up and realised how much it was interfering with my life and how stressed I was getting over what amounts to some data on a server somewhere that just did not really matter. So I quit, but it was fun while it lasted.

I see what your saying about the organisational aspect, I think some of the skills you learn in gaming, particularly team games and maybe mmorpg's are transferable, however I would be reluctant to put it on my CV unless it was a technical job and it certainly wouldnt be down as my primary hobby. That being said, apart from going clubbing, mixing and other PC stuff it probably is my only hobby.

Good fun but like you said it demanded too much time, i still check out their offtopic forums.

My alliance was called MILK since we were at war with the galaxy strongest alliance the COOKIES. When we started losing the war our top players and leaders left the alliance to join our enemy. Soon enough they attacked us so we created a new alliance called HTH (Higher Than Hope) the name is obvious we didnt believe we had a chance. It started as a way to at least punish the traitors but in the end although weaker we did win the war thanks to our leader.

Back to the real world … can’t believe Harry1 was banned for this thread?!?!? I was surely a geek somewhere during my life but nothing he said was offending to the point of banning him! Hope that inst true because that would really affect the way I see Hexus forums.

    Planetarium ruined my life!!!

I virtually swore off online games after that....Worse than Crack!!

And on the Harry banning note, don't jump to conclusions. Admins are notoriously tight lipped about stuff like that, and although Howard didn't agree with Harry on this one, you don't get banned for having an opinion in here....

And to prove that, I'll say that I agree with Harry, and that Howard is flat out wrong.

    /gets the Ban Hammer out

Nope..this thread was not the reason that Young Harry1 has a holiday from Hexus.

It's not a bad thread really, and trust me,......Howard has zip to do with these things.

We hate banning people.....really hate it. But sometimes, it occurs, and it's never a mild undertaking and always takes lots of discussion.

    It's just.......private discussion.

/\ it's a long term thing sometimes chaps. Not just the last few hours/days that create a situation.

Imo gaming as a hobby is fine. Not that i would mention it to anyone because of the strong association with social ineptitude. As inclusion as a hobby on your cv... Why not start talking about how you stalk your ex and love to sleep in until 12pm, just to be sure you land that job.

I usually list computer gaming as a hobby in my CV (after everything else, usually with an emphasis on 'with my friends'), but I'd never put "d00d I'm totally sergeant Major of the Army in BF2142".

Equally when most people list reading they don't put what books they like. so thats something to think about.

Gerenally a good idea to list all the hobby's you can manage a 10 minute conversation about, even if you aren't an avid fan. If the interviewer likes one of them they will invariably talk to you about it for a few minutes and most likely remember you, which can often be more important than your qualifications.

took a while to get through this thread, but you have hit the nail there i think, list it as a hobby as i would do ,but dont delve into it as that then gives an instant impression, normally negative unfortunatly with the stigma attached to pc games. the common thing seems to be, when playing a game your better than someone else they will just say yeh but i have a life assuming your a geek because your good, its amusing .
