I don't understand, what is supposed to be the funniest part of the movie, the amp that goes to 11. I don't really know that much about music but do all amps only go to 10, so going to 11 is impossible. And what does the director mean when he says why don't you make 10 be the loudest. I mean wouldn't eleven be louder than ten anyway. Maybe I just am missing something that makes it funny...

I love/can't believe the dozens of serious explanations that people have typed out.

The reason that it's funny is that he actually believes the fact that there is an 11 printed on the knob of the amp makes the amp louder than someone who has an amp that only goes up to 10. Of course, you could easily stick a 0-10 knob on the same amp, turn it to 10, and then get the same amount of volume. Nigel doesn't understand that. That is why it is funny. Especially when the guy says why not increase the power on the amp, which obviously would make it louder at any number, but Nigel reaffirms his stupidity by inferring that his amp would still be louder because it goes to 11, not 10.

...as well as the fact that there is more than one person on the Earth who can use both a keyboard and a DVD player but cannot understand this joke.

I always assumed from this scene that Nigel had had the wattage increased and proudly showed that off by having the knobs go to 11.
