Most annoying 'cool' thing you've bought?

I recently got one of these:

Because I thought it was cool.... R2's head lights up and rotates back and forth when the phone rings and he makes all the usual beeps and whistles we know and love from the film... all well and good huh?

Well, no, not all that good... cos even after you've picked up the phone he bloody well keeps on whistling and beeping, working his way through the cycle until the end.

I have three phones downstairs, two wireless jobbies and R2. If I answer the phone on the wireless ones, he keeps on beeping like a game of Pong on speed, so I have to reach across and pick up the receiver on his leg to shut him up... I'm starting to wish they sold those Jawa zappers, just to shut the annoying bugger up!

So, what have you bought of late that you thought would be the coolest thing and is now listing itself as a prime candidate for the bin?

I got one of these Roboraptors a few of months back from iwantoneofthose.com (big fan of that site) and it had nothing but great feedback so I thought I'd splash out on a new toy.

On paper it sounds awesome. Walks, runs, avoids objects, has different moods: hunter, normal and caucious. Caucious it growls if your go near it and backs away. Normal its head will follow your hand if its in front of him, wonders around and stuff. Hunter it will walk till it sees something move, stop, propel itself forward and snap at it. (its also got certain 'spots' on it for you to tickle it)

So all of this sounds something pretty cool to play so I ordered it, it arrived, I got it unpacked, batteries in it and batteries in the controler, set it down on the carpet and switched it on...

Now some of the features I discovered where pretty fun, for example the nip it gives... there was a couple of occations where my dog became a little curious and approached it, smelt its face and the raptor tried to nip him... you should of seen the speed my dog ran in the opposite direction, I swear he is afraid of his own shadow... bless him.

Anyway some of the features where quite cool BUT the thing can't walk to saves its life! Which made alot of the features pointless like its own roaming mode. The rubber on the feet just get stuck to the carpet, its legs don't lift high enough. I even tried it on laminated flooring and it still wont walk. Its run feature is even worse, it just loose like a dinosaur having a spasm on a treadmill.

So without it being able to roam its other novelties wear off very quickly, haven't switched it on in a few months but can't bring myself to throw it away as it cost a bit

I bought one of the really early MP3 playing personal CD players a few years back. Would also play VCDs when hooked to a TV too.

What a pile of crud. Cheap plastic, huge pointless casing (could easily have been much smaller), and rubbish electronics. You could hear the motor spinning the CD through the interference on the audio circuit. Complete waste of money. Thought it would be cool at the time

Thats because my friend, the majority of the feedback on that site is faked.

Most annoying cool thing was my Motorola V620. It was rubbish, within days it was slower, noticably so and by six months it was so slow I had learned the buttons in sequence so I could leave it for 30 secs for it to do what I wanted.

    How completely pointless.

I got a Talking USB Parrot from work a long while ago

(Although it didn't annoy me - I found it great for annoying other people )
