    Monitor hiding thing

I'm going to be putting my computer in a custom built desk (built by me) in my window bay - which looks out onto the street.

Rather than having my 20" dell in everyone's line of site, I was thinking of getting one of those things so your monitor slides up/down out of your desk, so it can be hidden during the day. I think they are motorised - hopefully nothing hydraulic.

Anyone seen something I could use to put something together? I'm semi-competent at building stuff, and have most tools, etc.

You might be able to build something using a linear actuator.

That sounds like a cool project, you should post some pics when you get it working.

what about something that folds out, rather than motors upwards. Might be a bit safer, and easier to do

else just get a couple of actuators attached to a wooden board, with a vesa mount in it, attached to the dell.

We've used things like this at work, to lift plasmas up and down out of cabinets, although i think they may be kinda expensive.

Those linear actuators are what I'm looking for. Then I can just make up a vertical drawer with a vesa mount in it, as mentioned. I think I'll only need one - 50kg of force is enough - just use a runner on the other side and make it nice and tight.

Only thing is to make it look good!
