    Magical Poker!

I play internet Poker quite a lot, sometimes for real money, sometimes play money (you can play real money for like 25p\50p blinds so its not serious gambling), anyway, last night with nowt on the TV, I thought I'd play a few hands.

So jumped into a room (Texas Hold Em btw), first hand, my hole cards were Queen - Ten of Diamonds. First round of betting as normal...

And the flop; Ace - Jack - King of Diamonds.

So I've flopped a Royal Straight Flush!

Never had one before, and get one first hand, on Christmas morning!

So thought I'd check the odds - 649,739:1
    A probability of 0.000154%.

Was so chuffed I actually saved a piccy in Paint of the poker window.

So a clean as you like Royal Straight Flush, only using the first 5 cards, first time ever (and probably last), Christmas morning!

    Jesus or luck?

EDIT - By the way, the turn was a 9 Diamonds and the river was a 6 Diamonds, so I actually had Ace, King, Queen, Jack, 10, 9 of Diamonds, a hand which doesn't have a name, but should.

Did you get a bonus? Quite a few poker houses pay out a wee bonus to everyone who gets a royal flush.

I've only ever gotten one in my entire life, so well done

Nope, but it did say '...wins pot with a ROYAL STRAIGHT FLUSH!' in the little chat window. Then the other peeps said things like 'wow' and 'vnh!!!' (very nice hand) and stuff.

    That was reward enough.

But how much did you win???

Are you now the Mr Casino Royale of HEXUS?

Have you ordered up brochures to buy your own island in the tropics?

Is Heather Mills eyeing you up as a possible future husband?

I see the web 2.0 acronym craze has even reached the poker tables.

Its extremely rare to get a straight flush, let alone a royal flush.

The problem you had with the flop is that it came 3 of the same suit, no-ones going to bet in case someone else has hit the flop with a flush, maybe someone will try to steal the pot, but as soon as someone else (you in this case) calls or re-raises, its game over, so not much can be won from it.

In the days before TV popularized poker, I used to play in the casino tournaments (and cash games afterwards). The first 'weird/magical' hand I had was playing 5 card Omaha (dealt 5 cards, but must use 2 from the hand). I was dealt a royal flush, pretty to look at, but not much use in Omaha. At the end of that game, I won with 4 - 10s (one ten in the hand, one on the flop, one on the turn, one on the river!), the unlucky person I was playing against had aces over....

True, I made little for 2 reasons; firstly the other bloke in the pot had Ace - 6 hearts hole cards, so he had a pair of aces off the flop, with me floping a Royal Flush. He still wanted to bet his aces, but would have been weary of a flush, so he put a small bet just to see if I had anything. Also, I checked the river so he didn't fold and I could see the hand confirmed.

Don't play Omaha though, just no limit Hold Em... even pot limit hold em is a different game far as I'm concerned.

    You play online?

Nope, don't see the attraction in it. Proper poker should involve human interaction like tells or just plain staring at an opponent.
