like what kind of bookmarks are you talking about? I know you said "the usual suspects" but what are they?

Surely everyones bookmarks are different? For instance i don't have any for the sites i visit frequently, including all the major online CD/DVD/Book retailers, i just type the urls in directly. it's easier for me

EDIT: was going to say, google toolbar has a bookmark function that saves your bookmarks to your google account.

Once you get your list backup and running make sure you back them up using online tools like foxmarks.

That way you can also sync them to other PC's you may use.

If you were using firefox there will still be bookmark backups hidden in the application data folder, unless of course your PC problems needed a format to fix.

Look at it as a positive thing... now you've gotten rid of all those old bookmarks you kept meaning to delete!

As people have said once you've got a decent list back up and running try and get them backed up regularly by using one of the many useful 'sync bookmarks' add-ons available within FireFox...

I use 'Online bookmark manager' and it's great, unobtrusive and I know that all my bookmarks are backed up on the web.. and constantly sync back and forth.
