I gotta say that much of what Rave says does make sense. However when getting a mortgage one doesn't have to stick to paying the minimum repayments. There are plenty of flexible mortgages around these days - and any overpayments reduce interest and allow further overpayments as the monthly payments drop. And if you don't stretch yourself too much then you should be able to do some overpayment every now and then.

Anyway. Back on the other topic. I think we've decided on the bathroom tiles. We'll also settle for cheaper flooring - although there is some nice stuff out there and the area to cover is relatively small it's still better not to spend excessively. Couldn't do any work on it this weekend as I had to be at work, but my parents are still moving it all ahead slowly

Am also looking into letting one of the bedrooms to my friend.

from experiance of having cheap flooring (well improper cheap flooring) i'd say its worth punting for the better stuff, you might already be doing that!

But i've had a landlord who had used laminate flooring in the kitchen (retard), that lasted about 14 months.

But that said my parents have some probably expensive tiles actually, that are a death trap when slightly moist.

Well its going to be engineered real wood, not laminate. We have this in my parents house. The other stuff looks like stained and aged planks of wood - but its twice the price. It'll be quite good anyway.

    Congrats

I'm moving into a rented house next year (sharing with 3 mates) and that was a big enough triumph for me, but to have you're own house is one above that

It's a fantastic feeling isn't it... first night in your own place!

I still love it tbh, 6 months down the line.
