    What A Soft Touch!

Jon was at work and just about to leave earlier on tonight when out of nowhere appeared a young Springer Spaniel bitch, covered in crap and trying to steal rubbish out of the bins. He made friends with her and she was so skinny its shocking, you can count every single rib in her...she really is painfully thin.

Anyway, she is now sitting in the kitchen, looking better for having a bath and very happy after a nice meal of chicken and pasta (only a small one though!). Gonna ring around all the vets in the area in the morning and see if she's been reported missing, also going to check local newsagents for anything...luckily its half term so i'm off work and can be here to keep an eye on her and feed her little and often throughout the day...what a soft touch!

She is such a sweetie, I cried when I saw the state of her....she's still quite grubby, I reckon she's spent more than one night in this horrible weather. Felt terrible earlier, I called her from the Kitchen and She stood in the doorway head down cowering away from me that's not a good sign whatever it could mean...

Boiling up some Eggs for her brekkie now so hopefully after some TLC she'll be happy and healthy. Max is lovely with her, he seems to understand that she needs care, he even let her on his bed and shared his bones....saying that he's used to strays, she's not the first one we've had, as soft as his owner that Dog

Jon said he'll put some found posters up, not giving info about her, just saying that a black and white bitch was found and our number..... need to be sure she's going to the right People and not someone just saying she's theirs, we're going to take her to the Vet on Thursday see if they'll scan her for a microchip.... the Kitten is going in to be spayed then, so kill two birds with one stone as it were

I have this strange feeling I've read that post somewhere else...

Hope she's OK. It does sound as though the previous owners shouldn't be looking after her.

    Cheers,
    Stephen

I think she'll be fine.... as for abusive owners, we'll cross that bridge when we come it, if anyone can be bothered to come forward, but we'll make sure she's safe no matter what.

Very nice to hear there's some people in the world that care

Hope you find her owners and they have been worried sick having just simply lost her

You can never be too soft when you find a dog in distress!

My mate has the most gorgeous staffordshire bull terrier ever, and he got it from the RSPCA... stunning little dog! You need to see him to believe him, he can jump higher than my cat can!

He seems to think it's previous owners shot at it because he was playing with his air rifle one day and the dog started to go wild then cowered in the corner.

Cruelty to animals is one of the most evil things ever and I would not think twice about beating the living daylights out of anyone I caught being cruel to animals.

    Ah bless...

It's probably no reflection on her owners, if the dog has been lost for a few days she will be hungry and frightened, especially in this weather.

Good on you for doing that, a lot of people would not have bothered. Got a miniature King Edward from our son after our last doggie died and he said that when he went to pick it up , it was sitting all on it's own -obviously 'the runt of the litter'' but it has turned out to be a wonderful wee dog and we would'nt part with it for the world.

Thanks Guys Just couldn't leave her, I know how i'd feel if it were Max that was alone in the cold ( though i'd make sure he never found himself in that position )

She's sleeping now, Max being ever the Gentleman has given up his bed to her.

We shall see what happens over the next few days, I suppose it's too optimistic to say we'll keep her, the Kids would love that, they have taken to her already.....just have to keep telling them ( and ourselves ) that she may have a loving family somewhere who is missing her, and we have to see if that's true before we think about sharing our home but who knows.

Spent the past hour phoning around the Vet centres and Dog Warden and Police, thought we had a breakthrough when the Police said someone had reported a lost black and white Spaniel In January, got all excited, then they phoned back and said these people had their Dog back Saturday everybody took our details just in case someone reports her missing.

The Dog Warden is coming round later to check if She's been microchipped, he did say that if we couldn't find her owners would we be willing to keep her, I said that I couldn't see us letting her go if no-one comes forward

Thats really nice of you Shelley, top marks...soft touch? I think it was more you couldn't resist the look in its eyes!

I remember when a beautiful little black cat followed me and girlf all the way home from the pub, about a mile but always keeping 5 metres behind then as soon as I opened the door...ZOOM into the house. So we took her back to where we found her because she was healthy but a little thin. Next morning who should be at the door sitting patiently! So we fed her once a day for a week and she turned up each day and then we discovered she was going two doors down. Anyway they did all the newspaper and poster things for the area and no one came forward so now she lives by the river eats only the best food like Sheba, has shrimps and milk daily and is a little porker!

Well done Shelley and Jon. We've just taken in a cat; a friend of my wife's died leaving her 18 year old cat, Lucy. The friend had no close family, so she's moved in upstairs (she lived in an upstairs flat, and we think she's just used to going upstairs to be fed etc.) and is spending a lot of time hiding under furniture. She's getting a bit less nervous now, though, and comes out to be made a fuss of before rocketing back under the furniture. Our existing feline tenant, Arthur, is a bit put out, but he'll get used to it. Given her age, we probably won't have her for very long, but at least she's being fed and looked after, and getting the medication for her arthritis.

Thanks Guys It just seemed like the natural thing to do, we'd be devasted if Max got lost, so we'll try and see if she does have a family who's missing her.

George that's a lovely little story about your Cat, I always said that you do don't find a Cat, the Cat finds you... all our Cats have found us, we've never set out to find one ourselves

Nichomach, she'll get used to you, and when she does, you'll be repaid your kindness in lots of love i'm sure, poor Arthur it's not easy sharing a space with someone new all of a sudden, hard for us let alone our pets, our Kitten is making an effort to be friends with the stray, she's sniffing her and given her kisses, the stray hasn't taken any notice of the cats, our old one Stella is very put out, she's been sat on the windowsill glaring at me since breakfast time

Good on you Shelley, I'd be devastated if my Golden Retriever (Chloe) got lost. Having said that, she's never far away, too much food to leave for somewhere else...

There's good news and bad news...

Good news is the Dog Warden came out and scanned her, She has a microchip

Bad news is, the owners never registered their details

The Warden says he'll ring round all the Vets and see if the code matches any on their database, he asked if we were happy to keep her while all this goes on, I said it wasn't a problem as moving her again would be stressful for her, she's very timid and nervous, he agreed that it wasn't worth upsetting her.
