I used to use these a lot , but nowadays I'd go for something with a good lumbar support having has a prolapsed disc.

I have a chair like that, not good for sitting down for a long time as I found it is the reason why my knees hurt when walking up stairs.
(Before anyone asks, the pain has been going down since I got a REAL chair )
I don't like sitting on mine for long - but only cost me £10 from the local paper.
Best thing about it is that it tucks in under the desk out of the way when the dining room PC is not in use.
The thing with these chairs is that although they go some way to helping you assume the correct posture, you've actually got to force yourself to keep your back straight. I'm pretty tall and found myself hunching up after a while....

didnt they find recently that sitting up straight is not good for you and rather a slouched position is far more natural and puts less pressure on the spine?
Yeah they are not good at all. And Dareos I think they did but I remember when burnt toast caused cancer and mobile phones gave you hot ear brain tumours.
I have used a yoga ball (massive air filled bouncy ball) and found that good for strengthening the muscles, however not good if you have already damaged your back.
I used to get that, but only because my spine is already curved the wrong way from sitting badly for so many years. Try sitting with your legs crossed, and your back as straight as possible (you'll probably need a mirror to one side). Sure you must have seen those spine models, but the spine should curve in towards the stomach from the base, then back out around the shoulder blades, then back in at the top of the spine/base of the skull.
The base of my spine is almost entirely straight, and pushing it back into the right position is very uncomfortable. It gets easier, honest.

I also have back problems ands when I worked from home under the Gov'ts "Access to Work" scheme, they fitted me up with a Kinnarps orthopaedic chair, with over 12 adjustments.
I was quite chuffed, at the end of the 3 year job, when the company allowed me to keep the chair (and desk, phone, laser printer, internet stuff etc).
Woe betide any budder who adjusts it off my settings though !!
Had one, didn't like using it for long periods of time.

Gerschwin, I just so happened to wonder about these chairs a while back, the thread I made has some more opinions you might want to read and can be found here: http://forums.hexus.net/showthread.php?t=85718
Though I'd decided to get one, I still haven't got round to it! I do like the look of the one Scan are selling but it's around £70 which is too much for me, I could buy a new spine for that amount!
Cheers guys!
