a 8800 gtx should last a good few year. the 7800gtx is still a good card

Life expectancy for the new dx10 cards will really come down to how fast the software houses implement the new features of dx10 into their games. What are wonderfully fps on all the latest dx9 games at the moment with all the eye candy turned on probably will not be in say a years time.

I see what your saying and i guess we wont know anything for sure now but i really cant see the current 8800's falling that far behind in one year. The software developers would be really shooting themselfes in the foot if they did as A LOT of people bought into the price drop old dx9 cards which are in the most less that half the power of the dx10 cards... surely this would make them completely unusable if things moved on too fast

Oooh, the 8600GS looks fast and cheap - 2/3s the number of streams as the 8800GTS at only half the price! Should come in at around £90. Shame it's only got 256mb of memory as opposed to the 320 tho.

I'm looking for something in this price bracket too, as i've still heard anything about a DX10 card running a DX10 game, so i'm a touch sceptical as to how they will cope.
There is no doubting there amazing at dx9 though.

i'm watching the whole 8600 thing closely, but I noticed the 8900GS between the 8800gts and the 8600gt. Price could be about £150 judging by the price they show. Could this card be the "bang for buck" card???

I heard they are bringing the 'ultra' back and the bang for buck on is going to be the 8600 ultra.

I've read in Xbit that only 8900Ultra is listed in the drivers, at least now.

Just a overclocked version of a 8800GTX. It's for benchmarkers' game, not wise investment for gamers unless their price is the same as 8800GTX. Nothing added, just higher clocks. 8600GTS/GT are likely to be more excited and desirable.

That article isn't concrete, could be bull ****.

The GTX will need to be clocked around 700-2200 id say, seeing as most GTX's clock quite well.

Mines at 615/2060 with no effort at all.

8600 ultra looks like it will be the card to buy on a budget at less than £100 it will be a good card if the specs are right on it
