Need a quiet way to cool my 7900GS

    Hi guys,

I need a really quiet way to cool my grpahics card. The cooler on there at the moment, although its quiet, it still howls above the other fans in my computer. Plus it has a really annoying ticking noise coming from it.

    http://www.gainward.net/products/pro...products_id=72

That is my card. So what can I put on it that will be quiet, but still keep it from melting point?

    Cheers

the ticking noise doesnt sound too good. theres no way a healthy fan should tick.

cant see an arctic cooling hs+f thats compatible so the zalman vf700 would be my first option. http://www.nvnews.net/reviews/zalman_vf700/index.shtml

supposedly very quiet and does an excellent job of cooling to boot

Ticking, have you had the side off, anything interfering with the gpu fan?

Dunno what the ticking is. Its not loud ticking. Its a bit like the sound you get if you have a dimmer switch on your lights - and when you listen close to the switch it buzzes, like normal electrical buzz. Its just very very slightly louder. I took the card out and cleaned all the built up dust with a airduster - the fan is completely clean.

Its probably cause the fan is running at a low speed since its sat doing nothing - nothing to worry about. But the fan noise itself is the loudest of all my fans in my computer.

I have been looking at the Zalman - on Scans website. Might plump for one of those if nobody else can recommend another?

VF-900 is a very good place to start if you want performance & low noise levels

I can vouch for the benefit of a Zalman, but i had an artic cooler on my previous 6800 and much prefered that simply because it exhausted the air out of the case rather than recycled it inside.
The vf900 is very good still.

Since this thread has been revived, I'll post that the Zalman VF900 really doesn't like having a card next to it. I've recently purchased a 2nd TV card for my system, which is half-height, and the only place for it is right infront of the graphics card (the other PCI slot is taken by the full-height Audigy 4 Pro).

Now, whenever the graphics card is stressed to the max (full details in CS:S at 1920x1200 for instance) the temps head rapidly up to 90c+. In older games it's fine, but newer ones it's struggling. It must be just over 90c that the temperature warning kicks in.

I know that unless you've no choice, you should never have a card obstructing the fan, but thought it would happily draw air through the fins and at least keep the temps under control, especially as half the fan is still half-exposed. Not a bit of it. I'll have to get the Arctic Cooling one now I guess.

I thought the Artic Cooling one was a double slot? so you are going to have to have a problem fitting the TV Card?

Yeah, it is - but so is the VF900. The TV card isn't in the next slot (there's another slot directly under the PCIe slot too), it's in the 3rd slot. I appreciate that post wasn't overly clear - sorry, should have been more specific.
