Viewsonic VP171s on its way out?

My 17" TFT makes a high pitched wine while the screen goes quite bright and a little bit fuzzy (still readable). Then a second or so later it turns off, but the power LED remains green.

Turning it off and on again fixes it for about half an hour.

Any ideas what's up with it? I want to repair it.

    Cheers,
    Steve.

Ive got two of these but ive never had this problem with them :s
sounds like it could be dying im afraid although mine make a quiet high-pitched whine when the go to standby (LED goes orange) its a damn shame cause they are awesome screens, considering their vintage.

How old is it? They have a 3 year warrenty - well my VP2030b does. The DVI input failed on it recently - I was running it on a DVI-D cable.

When I replaced the cable with a DVI-I cable it worked - so I thought the cable had gone bad (which is pretty unusual I thought) and threw it in the rubbish. However the Perfect Suite callibration software does not work with a DVI-I cable as the monitor is detected as analogue, so I bought a replacement DVI-D cable......... and it did not work, so the DVI Interface on the Viewsonic was duff as I originally suspected.

Phoned Viewsonic Support on Friday (the week before last) and they delivered a replacement monitor and collected my broken one the following Monday (though they told me it might not be untill the following Wednesday). New one works properly on the DVI-D cable. Rescued the thrown-out DVI-D cable from the bin in the garage, and it too works fine.

So it it is less than 3 years old - call for a replacement!
