Worth the wait?

So im in the market for a graphics card at the moment. Im looking at 8800GTS or maybe a GTX series card. But with all the talk about the 8600 cards coming out just over a weeks time is it better to hold onto my cash and see if:

• 8600's are decent enough and would be ok with upomming games
• the price in 8800's come down

Is anyone else in the situation, if so what are your plans?

if your computer does everything you need to do perfectly well at the moment then my advice would be to hold on till the 8600's and the new ATI's come out.

Well thats just it, im currently using a 6600GT just to keep me going. Which is why im just thinking, just bite the bullet now and buy a card or is it worth waiting?

Well i know how it is to be tempted (i think everyone on this forum does) but at the end of the day if you wait and see how things pan out then you will have better grounds to make a decision on what you want

Well it kinda depends - are you really itching to play a particular game at the moment? If you are, and your 6600GT is struggling, and you can afford it then go for the 8800GT.

BUT, if you are just getting the itch then dont bother yet. Wait until the next gen games come out and then get the best value GPU in your budget then. You'll have a better idea of what card will work with the games you want.

But bottom line is: Do you want to play games fast now or later for your £££ ??? If now then buy, if not then hold tight. As mentioned before, you will have a larger range of cards to pick from, and at the very least, the card you want to buy will have come down in price a little.

Cheers for all the input guys and for putting my mind at ease on this question.

I think ill wait until the end of the month and see what happens along the lines of graphics card from ATI and Nvidia and keep an eye on the prices.

Im not in any rush as what im playing at the moment, the 6600gt seems to be pulling it off without any problems.
