order of installing a new card

    super noob question:

when installing a new video card, what is the order/procedure of doing things:

should i install the new drivers BEFORE the card?
(im just worried that i will not be able to see anything if i install the card without drivers)

or do i have to download the new driver first, THEN install card THEN new drivers (while possibly some temporary default drivers lets me see what im doing?)

what about uninstalling the old card drivers.... uninstall them before installing new-card drivers?
or uninstall them after installation of new card but before new-card drivers?

im guessing this (please let me know if im wrong):

    1. download drivers for new-card
    2. uninstall current drivers
    3. replace old card for new one
    4. install new-card drivers

    correct?

    thanx

If your new card is nVidia, you will find that the installer won't let you install the drivers unless you have an nVidia card installed, it is probably the same with ATI, so if your new card is from a different manufacturer, then you have no option but to wait untill after the new card is fitted (and you are running windows at 640x480@16 colours), before you install the new drivers.

If you are swapping nvidia for ati (or vice versa), using driver cleaner http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/U...essional.shtml, will get rid of any parts of the old driver that the uninstall didn't reach.

    It's also free

    ok thanx

btw, before i uninstall current drivers, do i need to change my graphics resolution (rightclick-desktop/properties) to 640x480x16?

i mean - is there any chance that windows will not let me uninstall them while im using them?
(kind of like if when you cant delete a song if WMP has it open)
