    DELL 2005FPW Burn in ...

Was in a rush this afternoon, was fiddling with deinterlacers etc. and so was using a 1080p Panasonic test video which had the panny logo at the bottom.

This was about 2PM, I was rushed so left my machine running and monitor switched on - and when VLC is in fullscreen my screensaver doesn't come on. So I got back home about 20mins ago, and I have noticed that any slightly dark image in that area where I paused the video shows the Panasonic logo. I'm going to bed and will leave the screen off for a few hours, hopefully that'll sort it out.

Anyone else had this happen to them? Didn't think modern TFTs were prone to this sort of thing

Will stick a picture up if I can!

Don't have a Dell, but I had 2 NEC 20WGX2 monitors that were both delivered with the NEC factory "burn-in" test menu visible in the centre of the screen. Rather ironic

It was retention rather than burn-in though, and it faded after a few days use. I'm sure your Dell will be the same.

FWIW NEC's recommendation to me was to display a pure white screen. This didn't help an awful lot. Instead I created full screen red, green, blue, white and black pages and cycled them. Which didn't help that much either

With retention on TV's, most of the manufacturers recommend you turn the set to an untuned channel and just let the "snow" erase the retention. It seems to work well.

You'll probably (hopefully) find that it'll just gradually fade through normal use.

To cure burn-ins on tft screens, display a white background, try and get everything off the desktop, i.e. shortcuts, get the start/taskbar to hide, turn the brightness up all the way and leave on for about 12 hours. This has solved my problem where I had done something similar to what you described.

    Hope that helps.

Yep that cure the problem on my 2005FPW, a nastly little 'nux penguin from my desktop background was still showing on my screen when playing Call of Duty. Most off putting.
