    is a 9500pro still good?

hi, i have got the chance to buy a 9500PRO the price is between £70-£85.
i want to know if this is still a good card, i've got a geforce 4mx card atm so i'm guessing it would be a bit better than my card.
what are they like with the latest games?, can you hardmod it to 9700PRO standards? what would be a good price to pay for one?
and do you think they woould cope with half life 2 etc( i'm not bothered about it been on low details etc, i would just want it to be playable)

    thanks

They are great cards, the 128meg version with "L" shape memory softmods apparently! £70-85 is a nice price to pay... and HL2 will play on it FINE.

They are still very good cards, some people still say they're better then it's predecesor, the 9600 PRO. Well worth £70-85 IMHO.

As for HL2, I'm not 100% sure, but I would of thought so!

:edit: Ok, it will run HL2 then.

AFAIK the 9500P will use the hacked drivers but will not softmod to a 9700p as theres no way to change the 128bit mem interface to a 256bit one.

The 9500np on the otherhand can.

    The 9500np can go to a 9700np, can't it?

It will goto a 9700p - assuming the card is softmodable to start with.

Don't worry about HL2 running on it - I'm gonna get it going on my V3 3000! (Note that's NOT the one in this system - see sigpic.)

they're still a good card for the casual gamer imo, but for true future proofness right now I'd pickup a 9800NP or something.

But for the price its difficult to turn down, as for HL2. No one can really say whether or not it will run it pretty well as its not been released yet, the engine may of been tweaked.

Folks, the softmod enables the other 4 pipelines in cards that have them disabled; those cards are the 9500np and 9800SE. The reason a 9500np could be made into a 9700 is that a lot of them were built on a 9700PCB and so had a 256bit memory interface. A 9500pro is the same core as a 9700 but with a 128bit memory interface. There's no point softmodding a pro, it already has 8 pipes.

Anyway, 9500Pro for £70 is a great deal, snap it up, it'll **** all over your GF4MX .

If that's your budget, that is by far and away the best card you'll get for it.
