    That board uses Intel GMA graphics, which means opensource drivers on linux, and DX9 support for Vista Aero. It should work fine (better than fine even) just for 3D desktop stuff. But if you're still set on getting a discreet GPU then anything nVidia is the way to go. Even a passively cooled 7300 would do the trick for £40.

    Thanks for that. The problems I'm having are
    (a) the display is unsteady, even in the BIOS screen (Scan say it might be a memory incompatibility even though I'm using a recommended Corsair pair).
    (b) Actually tracking down the right drivers for Linux.

    Maybe I should persevere but I have very limited time to play at present :-(
