Dont EVGA do a lifetime (or 10 year) warranty? - it says 999 months on scan as it does for the BFG.

More importantly, get the one with the best (quietest) cooler. When i got my 6800 (in the dim and distant past) I didnt realise just how much noise 2 40mm fans could make, it used to drive me barmy, and this is back in the day when i had a 92mm delta slapped on a hooooooge lump of copper, not of this fancy heatpipe stuff.

I got the EVGA ACS3 edition which has the Arctic Cooling cooler, although reviews say it actually doesn't make much difference to temps over the stock one. Still, it's a lovely card and I can thoroughly recommend EVGA.

i will buying an 8800 gts soon and to be honest I think I will just get the cheapest I can find, BTW scan seem to have the xfx on offer for around £170 fairly often, seems like a pretty good deal to me.

I currently have a Leadtec 7600GT (AGP) I dont have any specific problems with it but my system overall has become pretty unstable and I have not managed to pinpoint the exact cause as yet.

prior to that I had an Creative (MSI) 4600 (i think) which was great for about 3 years until I upgraded.

Umm what PSU do you have? that might be the route of your problems as a 7600GT draws more power than a fx5600 or 4 series (they didn't have the x00 bit back then) and the 8800gts will draw a lot more power than your current 7600GT

Oh and if you want cheap, Novatech @ £175.07 and they come with there own lifetime warranty.
Not 100% as to what there service will be like, I have had to RMA a card to them once before but that was the day after I got it when I found the card had bad memory (leadtec 6800LE) which went very smoothly.
However as that was so soon after I got it I'm not surprised, they should be ok on an extended warranty like this.

I currently have a 420 Watt enermax PSU, it's old but was fairly high-end 5 years back and has never given me any problems.

I actually think the issue is more likely to be RAM or MOBO related as the caps are strting to fuzz a little now. Basically I get a stop error at some point after a cold boot, susequent restarts are are fine and if I put the system into standby (rather than shuting down)I can run for weeks with no issues.

When I finally dust of the credit card I will build again from scratch and then I can look into the problem properly. If it turns out to be the mobo might even treat myself to a second hand Abit NF7 to see what I can get out of my current barton 2500+ mobile. However they are selling on ebay for around £40! Which is a little high for a 3 year old, second hand board that has probably been clocked within an inch of it's life.

Well blowtorch there's no point in you buying a 8800gts without replaceing that motherboard as they don't make 8800gts in agp

Must say that EpoX made some of the best slotA motherboards ever. I loved my EP-8RDA3+ and it still works as an emergency backup motherboard.
The thing to check on that PSU is the 12v rail as older PSUs didn't have much on 12v as so little used it.

Lol, yeah I was aware of the AGP thing, I will be replacing everything when I eventually get around to it.

I've got an EVGA 8800 GTS superclocked and its pretty quiet.
I cant hear it above the already quiet fans on my Antec P182.
