No AF for 2900XT in DX10

Some industry insider buddies with an AF test program had tipped me that ATI's 2900XT cards are NOT performing AF in DX10.

Apparently the press has picked up on this now as well, and personally, I find it very interesting ATi themselves have not been pointing this out to reviewers. Rather, they are letting the review sites post artificially inflated results which make ATi's 2900XT look "better" than it actually is!

    Check it out:

    http://www.techreport.com/reviews/20...b/index.x?pg=4
We did hit one snag in the DX10 version of Lost Planet. The Radeon HD cards didn't appear to be applying anisotropic filtering to most surfaces, regardless of whether aniso was enabled in the game settings or forced on via Catalyst Control Center. Be aware of that as you're looking at the results.
I'm hoping for the OK to post the AF test program on NZone or a link to it hosted somewhere.

    BTW- this review also:
    1. Confirms the poor showing of the 1GB 2900XT in this review:
    http://www.firingsquad.com/hardware/...n_2900_xt_1gb/
    2. Shows much higher cpu utilization for the 2900s in video playback.

    More driver issues?

Man AMD just cant seem to get things on track with this card can they!

What i dont get is why they havent made a 256mb one to compete with the 320?! ludicrus IMO as thats the biggest part of the market and its just left uncontended

Sort of in direct contradiction with the "full family" launch they promised when explaining the final delay on the R600 as well.

The R600 launch shares a LOT of similarities with the FX5800 launch:
    1. Late
    2. VLIW architecture
    3. More performance hit enabling AA/AF
    4. Worse performance in target DX app (DX9 for the FX, DX10 for the 2900)
    5. Much louder
    6. Much hotter
    7. Use much more power
    8. AF driver issues (the AF on the FX5800 series wasn't fixed until the FX5900 launched)

AMD did not need these headaches as they lose more and more money every quarter.

Humus of ATi confirms this is a bug, no ETA for fix:

Meh, not to mention the broken shader AA resolve.

    *****UPDATE*************

This problem is fixed in the leaked beta drivers, revision 7.8.

    http://enthusiast.hardocp.com/articl...50aHVzaWFzdA==

So now the only DX10 problem facing the 2900 is that it's slower than it's competitor in DX10.

Its still takes a hit when custom sample AA resolve is used, that wont be so easy to fix

Yep, the 2900XT was definitely DOA. Way too many strikes against it, not the least of which was a huge amount of hype from ATi themselves how it would be the "G80 killer".

When you hype your product over a competitor's superior product, and make your client base wait seven months for the inferior product-
