    Current Spec Dell 3007's. Opinions

Now that Dell have been doing this monitors for a while and that we are a few revisions in, what is peoples current view on them.

There was initial complaints about the lack of inputs compared to its smaller 2407/05 cousin, and there was what appeared to be the common dell revision specific issues.

Whats peoples current views on these monitors.

genuinly good read from Tarinder Sandhu.

I think I'll not go back to this monitor as I think my 7900 card, meaty as it is would not drive this at a meaty enough rate.

I recently pulled the trigger on one of these bad boys after reading Tarinder's glowing review. I moved from a 19" Dell Trinitron CRT so I would argue I was already getting excellent PQ. The most awesome thing for me was the enormous amount of screen real estate I gained (so useful for video editing). The colours are extremely vibrant and it does an excellent job of emulating a pupose-built TV if movies are your thing. The hi-def content I pulled off the "interweb" is just jaw-dropping although the file sizes are insanely huge.

I predict the prices of these monitors will start to drop in the next few months as Dell gets ready to introduce the 3008WFP-HC or whatever. I think Displayport connectors will make an appearance on this model. Scan has already dropped the price to £844 inc. VAT in their Today Only specials this weekend.
Apparently, "Do whatever you like" should NOT be considered authorisation to build my uber rig!

Providing it has 1:1 pixel mapping, then you could use it at a lower resolution, you'll just end up with black borders around the game. Your card will certainly drive it well enough for a 2D desktop.

What?.. a 7900 would easily drive a composite desktop at that resolution. It can play all the modern games, it can certainly render the few primative objects, textures, and overlays that make up a desktop.

Re: Current Spec Dell 3007's. Opinions

I ordered one of the HC versions this year when they were on special (you still need to ring up and haggle, even when things are on special) and I would never go back to a smaller monitor (EVER!! ). Lack of inputs isn't such a big deal for me as I run anything else through an AV amp into a TV card, it's not the greatest solution but I'm not super fussy when it comes to things like that.

Having the extra screen space is amazing, especially when I'm working (programming, photoshop, Sonar etc) and watching films on it is fantastic.

The only major downside is gaming. Not because it's a bad experience but you have to have a MONSTER of a machine if you wanna run full resolution with lots of eye candy turned on. I don't really game much these days (odd bit of Warcraft 3 and HL2) so it's not a big issue for me, but I'm sure I could hear my 7600GT sobbing whilst I was downloading the bioshock demo (which was pretty much unplayable as expected unless I came down to "normal resolution").

There are a few more features that would have been nice (more inputs like VGA etc) but overall I'm REALLY happy I've got one of these sitting in front of me. Probably one of the best purchases I've made for my PC.
