    Nvidia or ATI?

    Hi all.
Quick question, I ordered a new PC recently and the graphics card it came with was an integrated ATI radeon X1250, whereas the one advertised was an Nvidia GeForce 6150. Is it worth complaining, i.e. is the GeFore better than the ATI, or is it the other way around?
    thanks a lot.

The Radeon X1250 is the better chipset of the two. Have a look here:

Also ATI has much better general picture quality.

    Wow, thanks, that's perfect...
Sorry, this seems kinda counter-intuitive next to the last question, but since this is an onboard graphics processor, is it possible to upgrade the graphics card by just turning off the PC, whipping out the ATI and putting in a new one? (an Nvidia GeForce 7600).

Going to put a bet on now that this thread descends into anarchy before long

Personally, I am disliking Nvidia's products more and more. I had an x1900xt before this 8800GTX, and aside from the "odd" drivers and ill fitting cooler, it was pretty reliable and worked fine most of the time.

you wouldn't want to rip out your onboard graphics mate

no you can't because it's integrated, you can add the 7600 via PCI and just plug your monitor into that.

    Re: Nvidia or ATI?

Well yeah I'd love to, but the ATI graphics processor incorporates a PCI-express card as well, which is connected to the motherboard with a cable. Can I just take this out? I'll need to to install the new one as it's occupying the only PCI-E x16 slot.

Strange indeed.... does this card have the DVI/VGA port on then?

Either way, you should be able to remove this, plug in a new card to the PCI-E slot and bingo. I'd imagine there would be a way to disable the integrated graphics in the BIOS as well.

    Re: Nvidia or ATI?

One of the ASRock boards (I think it's the CONROE945G-DVI) sounds as if it has a similar set up. On the ASRock there's a teeny little daughterboard which plugs into the PCIe slot to give a DVI output, while the analogue is on the back-plate, as normal.

But yeah, a PCIe dedicated graphics card will work fine. You shouldn't even need to turn off the onboard graphics - it should just detect the presence of a dedicated card. Just make sure the PC has the PSU to cope with what you choose.

    Re: Nvidia or ATI?

Neither one will be much good- as has been said a dedicated graphics card would me much better, even a low-end one. I would say go with NVidia but that is just personal preference.

    Re: Nvidia or ATI?

nah don't listen to him go with ATI trust me...or even better buy both, try the Nvidia first and then fit the ATI card and prepared to be blown away by both the better quality and performance
