Well I'd expect these modern cards to keep increasing from every extra mhz of CPU power, even the GF4TI aren't CPU limited yet (again in terms of minimal gain after a certain CPU speed). If you mean the CPU on the test system may not be up to the task the TbredB XP2700+ is only about 5% slower than the Barton XP3000+ so is plenty enough and only really over-powered by any real margin by the 800FSB P4.
Anyway, that was the best review I could find to compare a 9700 with a 9800pro but I'll keep my eyes open for something better.
Well from experiance.........
My rig wont go over 20K (3DMarks) with the current CPU speed....
I can clock the card as high as I want and 20 is all I can hit.....
I know as soon as I get round to upping the CPU this will rise....
When I had my CPU at 2.2GHz, I was getting about 19K. It might apeer to be only a little clock difference, but that seems to me like a prime example of CPU limitation.....
Getting a perf rise from a faster CPU speed is what you'd expect until you reach a point where the gfx card is maxed out and becomes limiting to the CPU. Getting minimal gains from o/c'ing the gfx card would seem to mean you're clock locked, there's something strange in the gfx archy or the game/benchmark is simply too puny for such a fine card ... precisely what I'd expect of the 3Dmark2001 benchmark which has served us well but never really got the most out of the the GF4TI range let alone these modern monsters.
EDIT: Either try something more modern like UT2003, Splinter Cell, 3Dmark03 etc or use 3Dmark2001 but with 1600x1200 4xAA+16xAF and see if there's a gain then when you clock your gfx card faster.

Better testing FPS in games that you'll be playing imo.

Yep i'd agree its games that matter, you can use the benchmark to tweak your settings on your computer but as long as the games work how they are supposed to thats all that really matters.Originally posted by TiG
