Agreed 100% - I wouldn't use any current gen TFT out of preference to a top of the range CRT - and TiG with respect I don't think you play many fast-paced FPS'ers otherwise you wouldn't be making such rash assertions re: ghosting (ghosting has much improved - but it's still there, even on top end TFT's, I've tried them).Originally Posted by Big_Al
The other issue I have with TFT's is the response time, not just the time it takes to glow/fade each pixel, but the number of times the screen is able to refresh effectively per second - i.e. akin to refresh rate on CRT's (only slightly different) - no TFT is able to refresh at over 85Hz AFAIK and this means anything running over 85fps is going to look not quite as liquid smooth as it does on a CRT sync'ed @ say 125Hz/120Hz with the game running @ 125FPS.
This degradation of smoothness is especially obvious on games such as Quake3 which I'm used to playing at 125FPS - it just looks way too jerky on TFT's irrespective of whether you are using native res (e.g. 1280x1024) or any other res (scaled o'course).
Anyone who asserts that CRT's are bad for your eyes are partially-sighted in their views - yes if you use a CRT @ 75Hz or less you are likely to hurt/strain/damage your eyes over a long period of time - you will, most likely, also suffer headaches to start off with (I know I used to over 3 years ago) - you might also suffer problems @ 85Hz over very long periods (although 85Hz isn't too bad for most) ... but with 100Hz or over (I use 1280 x 1024 @ 120Hz) you will NOT get any eye strain whatsoever - unless you are anatomically different to other humans in some way (no comment, pyro)
