"Duffman says alot of Things" - Duffman
with my 9700np i have. the chips look like the same ones, basicly the same mod, though i only did the gpu one.
you should definalty read more than one guide on how to do it htough, just to make sure they havent done anything wrong.
if you do any soldering things to consider are:
too much heat will kill components on your board, try not to hold the iron touching for more than a few seconds
its best to use 1strand/0.6mm wire for soldering imo. or you could use wire with 0.1/0.2mm stands, using a single strand and jst wrap it round the leg of whichever chip, no soldering. thats how i origianlly did mine.
be carefull though as if one leg is connected to another you will easly kill the card
too much voltage will kill your card. i suggest 1.85 as max. remember you should be able to get atleast 430 without volt mods on your card already (9700np and 9800 are basicly the same, 9800 just has higher stock voltage and better cooling + a few extras).
450 wil be about max, for me anyway, at 1.75-1.8v
there is afaik no advantage of flashing a card, apart from what it says on boot as which card you have, and in drivers. maybe usefull if your intending to sell the card, but that would be wrong
clocking is just easyer. you can set the card to boot at any speed easly without flashing also...
Whats the chances of messing the card up?
I just put a massive Zelman cooler and fan on my 9800pro, and run it at 9800XT core and mem speeds.
A lot less bother (just grab a copy of Power Strip).
does it work with 9800SE
erm, what's the point ? i don't see the advantage ?
save £££ by converting the pro to an XT
why stop at XT? if i can get a 9700np with a stock of 275 upto 500mhz, then im sure you can do better with a 9800pro
its quite easy - all you need is a resonable fan, a copper cpu heatsink, pref a small 1U one so it isnt too heavy/takes to many slots. drill some holes in it so that it can be mounted easly. o/c it, then vmod it, then o/c it some more
the only advantage of flashing seems atm to be looser timings on the mem, alowing higher clocks. note, higher clocked mem and looser timings wont always be better
but what's the difference between a Pro and an XT ? besides the clock speed.Originally Posted by Spud1
Well, nowt, really. The 9800XT has better stock cooling than the 9800pro, and has a dynamic overclocking thingy, that raises or drops the speed of the card, based on the temp.
So, get a 9800pro, and some decent cooling, then clock it at XT speeds, and save a few quid.
a few pipelines are blocked arnt they, so if you know what you are doing or have the correct software you can unlock thos pipelines and you have a better gfx card
