Just ordered an Hercules 9800Pro and would like to know which are the best user for the this card at the moment.
I am guessing that it's not the ones that come with the card, as they must get updated quite regularly.
Cheers

ati have recently perfected their drivers, i soon updated form the ones with my 9700 to cat3.2, they had problems with cs, 3.4 had the same problems, few fixes and small loss of performace, while 3.6 are perfect, all cs problems fixed, alt-tabing works perfectly in all games ive tryed, resonably decent performace.
3.7 are out now, i think, and 3.8 will be out soonish. <edit>also ati claim big performace increase with the next ones</edit>
i definalty would recommend using omega drivers, http://www.omegacorner.com as they are more userfriendly, esp if u want to overclock, as they come with radlinker and artifact tester
I think the last thing u want to worry about when choosing the right driver is cs.

lol korky, so true.
The rage3d tweak drivers are good which u can get at www.rage3d.com i think.
Acer Travelmate 8104WMLi
P-M 2.0 Ghz
2Gb DDR533 Corsair RAM
100Gb 7200rpm Seagtae HD
128Mb ATi x700 Mobility
if theres problems in an old game such as cs, theres likely to be worse problems in newer gamesI think the last thing u want to worry about when choosing the right driver is cs.
not really true m8, newer graphics cards/drivers really do tend to be more compatible with newer games.

Not bothered about overclocking at all, just want to know which drivers are gonna be my best bet.
It's just I have heard a lot of people have trouble installing and uninstalling drivers for the ATI cards.
cat 3.6 is the newest ATI driver at the moment then?

Trashman, I installed the latest Catalyst 3.7 drivers two days ago.
For me they are the best yet!, i had a few problems with MOHAA, Arx fatalis and IL2 forgotten battles and it has cleared them all up
Also there is a triple buffering option in the opengl tab on the display drivers, with that and Vsync on you get a nice FPS increase also all my Quake3 based games seem to have increased in speed by quite a lot
Give em a try.
I have no problems myself removing the drivers and upgrading here's how i do it..
First go into safemode
Remove the old ATI control panel and ATI display drivers from add\remove panel in control panel.
Then run Drivercleaner to clean out the old drivers
http://www.driverheaven.net/cleaner/
restart in normal windows
Press cancel when windows informs you it has found a video controller
(You will have to do this twice)
And now install the new drivers
http://www.ati.com/support/driver.html
I prefer the Omega customised drivers
(cause they have overclocking, artifact tester, 9700-9800 mod & custom settings)
You can get these from here.
http://www.omegacorner.com/index_ati.html
To install omega drivers you leave your existing drivers on, but just un-install the old ATI control panel then run the omega driver package and restart PC.

Another hand up for the omega drivers, the utils that are packed in the bundle are handy as well
Thanks for the help guys
I think I'll stick the 3.7's on when it gets here and see how it goes

Are you going to give the omegas a try?
I've not gone back after migrating to them
I'll see how I get on with the 3.7's first. Do the omegas offer a performance gain over the cat drivers?

Yeah, its performance and quality gain with them
omegas usually trade an unnoticable amount of performace for quiality and compatability + nicer control panel..
new omegas r out based on 3.7 cats, http://forums.hexus.net/showthread.php?threadid=3065
