    Geforce 5700, which model?

    Hi

I've been looking into buying a new graphics card. I know i'm going for a Geforce 5700 because from the reviews i've read it performs damn well.
I've seen quite a few reviews but im unsure of which model I should by. I kinda had my eye on the Sparkle version but it's a bit pricey and it comes with tons of crap. I've got about £200 but I can stretch a little bit further is needed. Any recommendations guys?

    Thanks in advance

For £200 you could get a Radeon 9800 Pro. Which would kill a 5700.

Which card would you guys say performs better.
    I heard from a m8 of mine a Geforce FX 5700 could thrash a 9600XT anyday
I ain't sure about that, what do you guys think about that?

You can get a full FX5900 for £140 inc. VAT at DABS
That will outperform any FX5700 substantially.
However, the Powercolour 9800 non-Pro for £140 inc. on special from OCUK is probably a bit better again (certainly for DX9).

From what I've heard, the FX cards are alright with DirectX8.1, but when games start using Direct9 features, the Radeons start coming out on top.

For £200 go for the r9800PRO any day of the week. it will kill a r9600XT, fx5700 of any type.

    Hmmm
Seem's like a Radeon I shall be buying
Haven't there been quite a few problems with Radeons when you play Call of Duty?
I'm planning on playing all the new games like Battlefield Vietnam, Far Cry, Doom 3, S.T.A.L.K.E.R etc
Yeah, from what i've read they've had compatability probs with quite a few games, and my rig gives me enough probs as it is

I think it is only with some versions of drivers, some are iffy, some are fine. If anyone would be kind enough to point out the better ones...

bf42, doom3, STALKER, are all games in partnership with nvidia.

in that case it might be worth going the nforce route
the 9600XT seems on a parish with present games to the 5700ultra depending upon exactly what you're doing
the 5900 though and the 9700 will out perform both
    http://www6.tomshardware.com/graphic...charts-15.html
this is a pretty decent guide for me
but no true dx9 games on there, no hl2, which is upon what I'll be basing my next purchase

ur mate is way off the mark. he must be a real nVidia fanboy or something.

    Check out these reviews

    http://www.driverheaven.net/reviews/5700/

The only thing the 5700 beats the 9600xt at is openGL and even then the 9600xt still provides adequate results. The major problems for the 5700 come in Dx games as the 9600xt pulls ahead with aa and af enabled. In dx9 games the 5700 takes a severe beating as does the whole nvidia range.
So basically the 9600xt will play all existing games satisfactory, willl beat the 5700 in dx games and for dx9 the 5700 is a as useful as a chocolate poker.

bascially get a 5700 (ultra or otherwise) and enjoy a few frames over the 9600xt at Opengl, but see a drastic performance dip in dx9 or get a 9600xt which is more rounded will play all ur old games and alot of dx9 games to come.

Ahh, I see now, I think i shall get a Radeon then.
The 9800 is the model to go for. What would you say is better then. It seems everyone is pointing towards the Pro version. What design (e.g. saphire) and where can i get it from?

If you are just after a cheap one then the powercolor is way out in front at only £176 at Komplett. Cheap enough to make me think about swapping my 9700pro. Don't have any personal experience of powercolor but the reviews are okay.

I found that Call of Duty was freezing on the newer ATi drivers - swapped back to some older (pre 3.8's) Omega drivers and it works fine.

I've been reading LOADS on GPU's for the past 2 months and this is my advice.

Mid range card go for the 5700 Ultra from Gainward OR 5700 Ultra Platnium from Sparkle
It will beat the 9600XT no probs.

Up from that is the 5900 Non-ultra, but this is a bit of a hald way house, if you wanna get a 5900 get an ultra cost is about £240 ? I think

BUT ...... If you can streach that little extra go fo a 9800 Pro 128MB £175 - 185, this is the old high end and will do you proud for the money. After that it's the 9800XT but that's silly money.

Good luck, If you really wanna 5700 I'd choose a 5700 Ultra (Golden sample) but don't expect to OC the DDR2 much

What websites u been on www.nvidiafanboy.com or www.foxnews.com/Ati/antiamerican

The 9600xt thumps the 5700 ultra on dx9 and and beats it on most dx8 games especially with aa and af applied. Only in openGL doesthe 5700 ultra beat the 9600xt by and significant amount.

Bascially the future is ati cos nvidia cards are reallly putttt uuuunnnndddddderrrr ssssstttttressssss by dx9.

revol68, I partially agree with what you're saying, especially with the dx9 tests run on the pre-release HL2 engine
    what other tests though

from what I've seen in Halo dx9, the 5700u and the 9600XT are on a par
    with the 9500pro edging ahead
    http://www6.tomshardware.com/graphic...charts-09.html

and the 9500pro and 9600xt are level beating the 5700U in aquamark3
    http://www6.tomshardware.com/graphic...charts-12.html
    but not spanking it...
although this is a mix of dx9 and dx8

from the hl2 tests the 9600Pro was equally or beating the 5900ultra in dx9 iirc
but that was some months ago.
Do you have any more uptodate tests you can link me with? interested as I'm up for a new card when hl2 emerges
