New monitor!

Hello,

I'm in the market for a new monitor, I like the look of this:
LG L227WT 22" Widescreen LCD Monitor - Black

And the price is particularly good, considering scan are asking £231.24 for the same screen.

I'll be doing the usual, browsing the web, gaming, watching movies etc...

Does anyone have anything against the above monitor or is there something out there that offers a better bang for buck?

The one thing that annoys me about these LG screens is the rubbish bases and adjustment. The screens are pretty nice, not quite dell's standard imo (as a sit in front of my LG lol) but good none the less. I seriously can't tilt my screen back far enough for fear of the mechanism or base snapping clean off lol.

The best LG screen i've used is actually this one (havn't seen the new 10000:1 contrast ratio screen though)

Although you lose some of the reposnse time the colours and brilliant and the TV as well as all the extra inputs are great for a multi-purpose monitor, tv etc..

Hello,

I've spent a large part of today in the deep and dark world of Samsung TFTs.

After reading mixed reviews of the 226BW, 226CW, 223BW and 2232BW I'm more confused than ever! Not to mention the competing HP W2207, that's apparently great if you like your reflection. And then there's the TN panel haters who make me really question whether it's worth making the jump to 24" as I understand every single 22" monitor ships with a TN panel of somekind.

Life was so simple until I started investigating further :'-(

The LG one you linked to sounded okay but I've heard that Samsung make decent panels too.

These used to be reviewed regularly on TomsHardware and the reviews were usually spot on. But lately there havn't been many displays reviewed there.

Dell seems to be generally highly regarded in this area.

Yes, DELL displays are excellent but expensive due to the types of panel they use.

Does anyone know if Samsung plan a product line refresh any time soon? Most of their range has been out for over a year now and I'm worried I'll buy one only to see the release of an improved version at the same price point.

Don't know about Samsung but ( and I know you have done a lot of reading) - Anadtech.com rate the LG monitor you were thinking of at No 1 for gaming.

Perhaps I'm looking for more of an all-rounder... The DoubleSight DS-263N seems to be excellent, a lot larger than I was originally planning and I can't seem to find it in the UK, but if the US price is anything to go by it's a bargain.

Yes - saw that on the Anadtech site and was tempted myself - but yeah its not available in the UK

In fact, even the NEC Multisynch 2490WUxi is not available in the UK. T

The top in the multimedia cateory - NEC Multisync 2690WUXi is £730 so very expensive.

Why of why can't we have the same monitors over here?

Stand sounds a bit dodgy though - anyway VESA scre holes mean you can mount on an other stands but will add to the cost if you have to buy one

Reviews are good for the LG. Unless you envisage having to use it in Portrait mode a lot (which I can't imagine) sounds like a good one.

Hello!

I've got my new monitor and so far so good.

I set it up using the above review followed by Nvidia's calibration utility. Seems pretty spot on, if a tiny bit red. The TN panel may take some getting used to but it isn't all that bad. I'm sure if your average user wouldn't even notice.

With Dell's go for the UltraSharpe's don't go for the cheaper standard ones, standard ones have an E at the front of the model name eg EsomenumbersWFP
They are far less common (mainly sold as part of a dell pc system) while they are cheaper than the UltraSharpe there quality is the same as any other cheap tft but cost more.
