    Good poll this..

In the past two years what was the best graphics card in your opinion.

    Things to think about...

    Speed
    Compatability
    Price
    Still a viable solution...

I'd say from that list the Ti4200 has got to be one of the best mid range cards from the last 2 years.

It certainly sold most cards of that type in the last two years.
Which is probably the best indicator of how well it was recieved by the general public.

The 9700 pro was the most impressive for me, the fact it pissed on a geforce 4 from a technical point of view, and the 9000 series began to turn the tables for ATI

Has it done the job for you, are you happy with it, was the price you paid for it good?

    If so vote for it...

Wolfe: heh I agree, but it aint been out two years...

IMO I think the GF4 ti 4200 is the best and still kicks ass today for the price etc, just like it did nearly 18 months ago...

Sorry man but the 9200 really sucks, and 256MB is a waste on the top-end cards let alone the budget end. 4200 is only £10 more and it will easily own it even with 64MB! £20 more gets the 128MB v4200.

Anyway I voted for 4200, great price, stock perf, CPU scaling, perf just below the 4400 which was £100 more at the time and it could almost always exceed the TI4400 when o/c'ed!

Another one which should be up there is the Rad9500PRO, 8 pipes and VERY close to 9700 perf at stock. You got all the benefits of the 9700 series including full DX9, excellent AA+AF, image quality (2D & 3D) and enhanced MPEG/DVD playback to mention a few plus points. It was close to GF4TI4200 prices at the time and HUGELY better than them. The 9500PRO really o/c'ed well too, often catching up the 256bit DDR equipped 9700 ... gee I wonder why ATI stopped making it LOL!

PS. GF2mx400 deserves to be there, great price to perf ratio and an excellent buy for a good while!

Thanks for that Austin, nothing better than a competely unbiased view.

tbh I think that the GF2 MX/MX400 series was an excellent choice 2 years ago and still plays the vast majority of the games today.

Agreed. I upgraded fron a GTS 2 to the Radeon 9700 Pro and was blown away by the performance. It put ATI right back on the map and on track.

Why was it excluded from the vote?? It's probably the most important card that bought AA and AF along with blistering performance to the masses.

Im going for 8500 - launched Nov 01 you could flash the early Le jobbies to full retail. They were fast, stable and a leap from the R100 core. Still (nearly 2 years later) Ati have the R200 core basis in the 9000/9100/9200 cards (abeit tweaked) which shows how good it still is even.

Also - probably the 9700 pro. A year on and its still nearly the fastest card on the market and 2nd hand users dreams cause they go for £160-200 and really hammer out the FPS still.
I dont like sig pics so i turn off sigs Which doesnt help when i dont know what ive written here! DOH!

Gone for Ti4200 - really was the best price/performance ratio going when I bought one and it's still going strong - I don't desperately need to upgrade at all and I've had it well over a year now.
