Lightbulb Need help deciding on Nvidia or ATi

So I'm buying a new graphics card and I was wonder whether I can get a better faster card than this for the same or less money.

Gaming FPS Charts would be much appreciated to compare the two.

What size screen are you gameing on?, as for many screen sizes that is an overkill (under 1680*1050, or even 1920*1200 this is overkill).

If you are on a screen smaller than this (or 1680*1050) consider a HD4850. Nidiva side is about a 9800 or 9800GTX

For more than 1920*1200, you may want to consider a 4850X2 (two 4850's in one basically) - http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/1GB-S...-4x-DVI-I-HDTV, as these are dirt cheep at the moment.

There is also the HD4870, about on par with the GTX260, which 512mb would do for 1680*1050, and 1gb would be good for more.

Re: Need help deciding on Nvidia or ATi

The HD4850X2 2gb is a good choice at just under £270:

    http://www.ebuyer.com/product/152204

It is basically an underclocked HD4870X2 2gb and offers better performance than the cheaper 1gb version.

Novatech also have the HD4870 512mb for only £155 delivered:

    http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/s....html?ASU-4870

Novatech also do the 1gb version of the HD4870 for £184 delivered:

    http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/s...html?NOV-48701

Novatech also do a 216 shader GTX260 for just over £200:

    http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/d...ml?s=gtx260&d=

The GTX260 with 216 shaders is faster than the HD4870 1gb though in many games.

I think you should go for this version of the EVGA GTX260 as it is already pre-overclocked for a few quid more:

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/896MB...-DL-DVI-I-HDTV

Here are some reviews of the EVGA model:

Re: Need help deciding on Nvidia or ATi

EGVA also have very good life time warranties (10years) and their upgrade program.

As Will has said depends on your screen size/resolution
    basically
4830 or 9800gt, they are neck and neck and very good for 17"-19" resolutions, 1280x1024 or 1440x900
4850 or 9800gtx+, again neck and neck, good for 20"-22" 1600x1200 or 1680x1050 higher with less whissel and bells turned up to max

It gets slightly more confusing after that, the 4850x2 is great for higher res for the price however it's dependent on game (how good it's crossfire support is)
the 4870 1gb and gtx260 216streams are pritty much neck and neck.

Don't know if you've already ordered, but: if your mobo supports crossfire it might be worth thinking about 2x HD4830 - again performance will depend on the game, but an outlay of £180 - £200 will get you some pretty impressive performance (topping the HD4870 512MB consistently and beating out GTX280 in some titles).

That 4870 is a good price, it's a shame Pixmania charge so much for postage.

This can be solved by paying £14 for a vipix card, meaning its only £5 delivery, netting you some real bargains when they do have offers like this. The vipix card also has upto 7% of certain items (from what i see, nothing exciting) I'm considering getting one

    It's 4.98*
