Like your system is not that great either!!

You could always edit the BIOS on your 8800GTS 512mb and call it a GTX295!! If Nvidia can do re-brands so can you!! More power to the people I say!!

Haha if only, although you could probably flash to get it to think it's a 9800GTX??

Edit: Just looked this up and trying it will lead to a graphics card shaped door stop

    Re: HD4890 vs GTX275 reviews!!

I have a venerable 8800 GTX (December 2006) in my rig which has done me and my HP 30" monitor (2560x1600) good service up until very recently.

I've been thinking about an upgrade for a little while, I didn't want to spend out on the GTX 295 and so was thinking about the GTX 285 but now I may well plump for the GTX 275 instead...

Internet speculation suggests the RV870 will be out around June/July this year, have 1000 Stream Processors and be on a 40nm process.
Assuming everything else scales down perfectly and they keep the exact same ratios of computing resources, the RV870 will have a die 66% of the size of the RV770. That suggests cost cutting with a slight performance increase rather than the same or slightly higher costs (due to the newer, more expensive process) and a way faster GPU.
If they do indeed have the same power per core, I reckon they will be around 1GHz core with Radeon 4890 esque idle and max power consumption.
