I agree with Axion on that - my Mrs' PC has exactly that Dell 1800FP UltraSharp and personally I think my NECs are better - sharper and clearer (they also have a button to switch between the analog and DVI ins).

Ebuyer have a 'used' Nec 1760nx for £313.12 inc VAT. I would be saving about £50... hmm. Go for it?
Do the NEC's come with the cables though? DVI cables cost like £20 ea.
I dont like sig pics so i turn off sigs Which doesnt help when i dont know what ive written here! DOH!
Good point. If I remember right you just get a standard analog VGA cable - maybe there was a DVI adaptor in the box, but I wouldn't swear on it.
Most gfx cards these days seem to come with DVI adaptors, I know the ones I've bought have som th3 mul3, you might already have one hanging about your place somewhere!
I've just found an adapter in my gfx card box, so this means I can use a VGA cable with a DVI port? I'm confused
Yea but you want to use DVI with a TFT preferably. The LG comes with VGA, DVI and USB 2 cables includedOriginally posted by shredisn@tdead

mol3 - yea u can use a VGA cable with that adapter and go from the DVI port.
You really want to be looking at using DVI to DVI for TFTs if possible though.

ah I see.
I gotta make a decision soon! wanna order 2morrow
I can get a 'used' LG L1710b for £294.00 inc VAT... very tempting
Whatever you do, get a dell monitor.
I been using dell TFT's for a long time now and I can honestly say that there is nothing better.
They are a damn sight cheaper than a lot of other manufacturers as well
Acer Travelmate 8104WMLi
P-M 2.0 Ghz
2Gb DDR533 Corsair RAM
100Gb 7200rpm Seagtae HD
128Mb ATi x700 Mobility
This probably won't help u decide, but maybe just drool a little ! It's an early pic when I just got them, and they're still standing in the place where the 22" that got fried was... look at all that empty space behind em!
Oh, and with the Dell 1800FP you can't adjust the height at all - you can only swivel the base and tilt the screen
Bit of a side-step, but does anyone know of any good TFT screens that will handle 1600*1200, apart from the Iiyama AU4831D (It's fugly, white/beige with a *huge* rim..)?

There's a few, top £££s though. Cheaper to get 2 1280x1024 like I did. NEC, Samsung, Sony, Viewsonic, Eizo... its a long list. Google it - there must be a group test somewhere out there...
Loads for the 17" models, but bugger all for the bigger ones
THG had one, but it was old, and biased

Argh, now I got three TFT's to decide from lol
Got the same thing right here... fantastic monitor, also kicking myself for not making the change sooner.Originally posted by siu99spj
I got myself a CML174SXWB (Just try remembering that name!) 17" TFT in Black from Dabs.com. At £338, its within your budget too. Damn nice screen, bit bright (but you can turn that down), great contrast ratio (Very important) DVI or D-Sub connector and 16ms response time.
For the past 3 years I've used (and still own) a 21" Sony E500 for graphics and animation work, and although I'd rather use the sony for heavy photo editing and the 1600x1200res was handy for running Hash the TFT is just so amazingly crisp and clear. So much easier on your eyes.
Infact I'm considering selling the sony to fund buying a second Hitachi A quality monitor should be top priority for anyone like us who spend long periods playing (sorry I mean working) on pcs.
