Khaos: Going back a bit, but you got IPS and PVA the wrong way round.
Emailing any manufacturer usually takes between 3 days to 6 weeks, depending on the company. It's very rare you get a response within 48 hours.
Again, I very rarely see anything inside 48 hours...
Again, the majority of companies I send emails to take around a week to get back to me, and taking more than a month isn't rare.
Sizewise, I wouldn't get too carried away with a 30" screen. I've had one for over 3 years now, while it's great to use in apps/browsing I've found it TOO big for games, particluarly online FPS where you really need to be able to see the whole screen ALL the time. At 30" I find the edges are outside my peripheral vision a big disadvantage in certain circumstances. Of course you need to throw some serious graphics power at it to get the best (but you have that by the look of it).
I also use a 24" dell at work, to be honest, this size is far more practical and doesn't cost £1000 or so.
My advice is 24"
I kind of agree with this. I like the 30" for WoW since I have a lot of UI mod's running but for FPS I could easily see this being a problem. On WoW I don't want to focus on all my mod's at the same time so the less important ones (eg. Quest trackers) for raids are all positioned on the outer edges. If I wanted to view the entire screen at once then it would be an issue.
On the flip side, when it comes to coding and especially spreadsheets it's a huge bonus having all the screen real estate.
Depends how far you sit back. I like the 30" even for FPS, but I can't sit as close to it as I would to a regular monitor. If you want it smaller though, just turn image scaling off and run games at 1920x1200 - makes a 23" box inside the screen, and it's less demanding as well. This even works on the scaler-less 30" screens (e.g. HP, original Dell 3007, Samsung)
Desktop and multimedia usage though, they're superb.
a mate bought an ultrasharp from dell and that looked awesome
Alas no response from them. Only sent two emails.
Just found out the car should be a cheap fix. Parts ............... £19 not the possible £500 if I had had pump and belt failure so the purchase is still possible.
I'm going to check with etailers that stock it see if I get any more helpful responses, aka, an actually bloody reply !

ViewSonic VX2435wm is a pretty strong monitor.
