What GFX do you have (April '04 edition...)?

Ok then, the date is April 2004, time for a gfx card update thread... Please select your gfx card, what make and how much you paid for it when you bought it. Also state the reasons you bought it...

I'll start off, after careful consideration, I used to have a GF4 ti4200 I bought a Hercules Radeon 9800 Pro 128MB for £235 approx 6-7 months ago. Great card and the AA is wonderful.

Bought Asus GeForce4 Ti4200 128Mb jobby about 3 years ago and it's served me very well, but the most recent games are starting to show its age... cost me about £120 back then.

2 days ago I bought a Radeon 9800 Pro for £135 from Micro Direct (also got the SilentX PSU for my Shuttle so it would have enough umph to drive it) - driver installation is a bitch (have to apply hotfixes to stop the installer crashing ffs) but seeing things like the Doom 3 alpha run smoothly, and the Far Cry demo is well worth it

sapphire 9700np bought for £200 about 8 moonths ago. Not had any probs with it at all and it still beats a 9800pro. Seems to have hit o/c limit though (450/315) and its starting to struggle on the very latest games when aa and af are on full, so ill be getting one of the new r420's when there out.

ATi Sapphire 9800XT, £309, Komplett, uhh about 5 months ago, reason for purchase, it was the only thing that was lacking at my system at the time and the lagging card was only 5 months old cos I decided not to go for the best at the time, so I did not make the same mistake this time. great Card.

Connect Rad 9800 pro in mi gaming rig. Does the job, was very cheap & o/clocks ok, so cant really ask for more. Also hav a Saphire 9500 np (softmodable) & a Gainward Ti5900 lying around doing nothing.

Power colour 9800np because I couldn't justify the extra cost of the Pro for the relatively small gain in speed. Clocks to Pro speeds anyway but I could do with fitting ram sinks at this speed. Need a small amount of thermal glue and will cut up my SlotA athlon heatsink for some monster RAM sinks. I think at the time £175+VAT the non-pro and £280+vat for the Pro hence my decision approx 7-8 months.

Trusty Gainward GS ti4200 64mb. clocks to 310/621, bought a regular gainwrad ti4200 in sept 2002, RMA'd and it and got the GS - sadly it is starting to perform badly may upgrade when there are cheaper 9800's about.
