Do you think its a good idea to go buying a 9800pro at this time because they are down to £139, or should i wait for the next gen ones to come out. Really i dont want to spend more than 150 quid.

Same position here myself mate. I have just bought a 9800pro. The new cards are going to be released costing at the very least £350-400+ and they wont come down for a good few months. A £9800pro represent the best value right now.

If you can wait a few more weeks until both ati's and nvidia's next gen cards are on the shelf then im sure prices of radeon 9800pro's will drop even further.

I chose to get mine now because with prices how they are they are unlikly to come down more than £20-30 over a few months tbh and i want it now

Well, my PSU is quality, Antec Smart Blue, but only 350w. Wonder if it'd run a 6800Ultra, plus hard drives, fans, etc?

Be a lot of pissed of people around, if quality 350w and 400w PSU's have to be replaced, for some power mad graphics card.

The ATi new card is the same, I hear. 2 plugs all to itself.

About the PSU spec : On Alienware US already you can order a 6800 ultra for your computer and when on the customize screen and when you select the limited avaliability card (6800 Ultra) it says : Incompatible PSU pls select PSU upgrade option.

Now i thought that the basic Alienware case came with a decent 400w PSU or something along those lines so this proves that Nvidia are serious about the power requirements of this thing.

And the PSU upgrade is to some 650W Monster PSU

I think that's PR bollocks just to get you to spend more. Alienware don't exactly do budget PC's now do they?

It will retail at $499 apparently, which is about £280. Do we alwyas pay a ton over the odds compared to our American friends for exactly the same item?

£400 is just over $700, so we'd be paying $200 more for the same item, if the $499 \ £400 retail prices at launch are correct.

Some of it of course is down to the 17.5% VAT in the UK, where as in the US, varies according to the state, it is more like 5%

Just think when you go to buy that Nvidia card, atleast you will get the solder burn medical treatment free of charge

It probably is just a scam to bleed us all dry

Alienware's stuff is nice but not for the silly money they charge. I woudlnt be at all surprised if they cut corners on the psu
