Re: How much do you usually spend on your gaming graphics card??

The most I've ever spent was 400 quid on a S3 Vision 968 - and it didn't even have any 3D acceleration (it was a professional card with certified drivers and the best option for multi platform use at that point - it even supported multimonitor if you had two of the cards! A month later the Matrox Millenium came out and did more for half the price..)

Next was probably a Voodoo2 almost on launch day and then two fanless Fatal1ty 7600GTs for silent multi monitor at 100 quid each. My refurb 8800GTX was only 50 quid off ebay.

When I upgrade I expect to pay in the region of 150 to 200 quid, so I can run recent games at top resolution. Currently have too many games to play through. Fallout 3 and Gothic 3 are probably the most graphically intensive games I have, and I've not even taken them out of shrinkwrap.

Re: How much do you usually spend on your gaming graphics card??

It seems that around 80% of people polled would not spend more than £200 on a graphics card and that over half would only spend a maximum of £150.

This means that cards like the HD5850 and above will not be considered by most users and the same goes with Nvidia Fermi unless there are cards under £200.

Re: How much do you usually spend on your gaming graphics card??

I've went through phases. First proper gaming PC that I built, bought an 8800gt for £110. Then next PC I bought a 4850 for £125. After that I went a bit mad, i7 PC and SSD etc spent £250 on a GTX280, which at the time was a bargain. I'm now back to using a 4850 and will upgrade later in the year. But I'm quite happy spending between £200-£300. Though I wouldn't really go over that, it then becomes a bit too much for one component.

I've bought about 3 cards in 10 years. All between £50-100.

I need a passively cooled one.

Re: How much do you usually spend on your gaming graphics card??

well i had to do an emergency upgrade(ish) as my 8800gts started to fail last week. managed to get a good deal on a brand spanking new xfx 4870 1gb rev.2 (egg) for just £80+vat.

thought it was a bit of a bargin, well compared to my gts which was nigh on £200 when i bought it. my max is usually £200 and look at whats available with features i want - don't matter n/v or ati. but as i'm gonna do a major upgrade towards end of year early next so didn't see the point of going overboard at this point in time.

£100 to £150 for me. My GTX 260 should last at least another two years easy enough for me.

Re: How much do you usually spend on your gaming graphics card??

Before I bought my new system I was always around the under £100 mark. However with the new system I got it with a GTX 480, a significant bump from my last ATI HD 4670, lol. A bit much for my needs maybe, but it all worked out to be at my budget. So I thought, what the hell.

Re: How much do you usually spend on your gaming graphics card??

Max I spent was ~£380 back in 2007 for a EVGA 8800GTX - although it lasted me 18 months ( and could have lasted me longer in all honestly) I remember feeling sick as I pressed the buy button.

Normally aim at keeping it below £300 unless there's a mega deal on offer. Last few purchases, from memory:

    6800 GT £280 '04
    1900 XTX £265 '06
    8800 GTX £379 '07
    GTX 280 £229 '09

Jeez, could have paid off my mortgage if it wasn't for computer hardware!

Because i rarely upgrade, i tend to buy cards which are £200 or a bit over as i expect to use it for 2-3 years maybe even longer if i can get good enough configs so the games i want to play can run on it .

Usually I spend <£150, but this time I made an exception for the GTX 460s, because they really seemed worth the extra cost to me.
