Full HD LED monitors, are they any good?

I've been browsing monitors lately because well I'd quite like to get a new, bigger monitor. I saw that there are quite a few LED monitors at Scan and they all seem to be quite cheap, such as these ones:

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/24-Ac...1-250CD-m2-5ms

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/22-LG...50000001-Black

I'm just wondering if there's a reason these are so cheap, and if anyone has had any experience with LED monitors. They are really slim which is a selling point for me but image quality always comes first. My current one really doesn't go well with text so hopefully I wanna get one that displays nice, clean, crisp text. The other uses for the monitor would be gaming and I will be hooking my xbox360 to this so it will need to be 1080p (preferably exactly 1080p ). So if you guys know of any monitors that are worth a mention it would be greatly appreciated. Oh and my budget would be somewhere between £100 - £200 although it could stretch a little bit more depending on what I'm getting for my money.

Get the one in my system <<< Top monitor and will work with your 360 fine - i have mine running via VGA and PC via DVI.
Kalniel: "Nice review Tarinder - would it be possible to get a picture of the case when the components are installed (with the side off obviously)?"
CAT-THE-FIFTH: "The Antec 300 is a case which has an understated and clean appearance which many people like. Not everyone is into e-peen looking computers which look like a cross between the imagination of a hyperactive 10 year old and a Frog."
TKPeters: "Off to AVForum better Deal - £20+Vat for Free Shipping @ Scan"
for all intents it seems to be the same card minus some gays name on it and a shielded cover ? with OEM added to it - GoNz0.

They are cheap because they are TN. I personally would go for an IPS if I was buying a screen

These are LED backlit, not full LED mate, a marketing gimic, the LEDs just light up the pixels.

I would imagine they're edge lit rather than LED backlit which provides local dimming.

It is true, they are not full LED, but only backlit by LED. Bassically you're replacing the traditional backlit of CCFL with LED. There is a difference though. I wouldn't say it's a marketing gimic. The difference might not be big for some, but others it can be.

First of all LED backlighting does make it possible for companies to make screens much slimmer.
Second of all, the screens also consume less power and last longer with LED
And Third of all, from what I've heard and noticed first hand, LED backlighting reduces backlight bleeding.

Here's a monitor that you should consider if you're searching for LED backlit. It's extremely thin

Re: Full HD LED monitors, are they any good?

Lol the world's highest contrast ratio of 10 MILLION:1 <puke>

Thanks for the responses guys. I've had a thought about it and my mum convinced me to basically not spend the money that I'm earning in my summer job yet (since a summer job is hard to get nowadays) and I don't *need* a new monitor right now. I'll be back to Dublin at the end of summer and if I still want one then I'll get one and I'll probably end up picking one of the suggested ones

    So thanks again!
