    GPU Temperature + RivaTuner Questions

    Hello again

(putting RivaTuner question first since apparently my heat is fine )

    2) RivaTuner Questions

Also, normally my GPU cannot handle some game settings all maxed out because it causes a lot of video lag and input delay... But I downloaded Rivatuner and now the games run perfectly smooth with no problems, what the hell? What could Rivatuner have possibly done that made the game run smoothly with no apparent loss of quality?

I'm assuming this has something to do with the "Direct3d Tweaks" Forceware settings inside of Rivatuner...

"Mipmap LOD bias adjustment" is default, everything is default for example, except...

Intellisample... Enable Trilinear Optimization (Check)... Enable anisotropic mip filter optimization (Check).... Enable anisotropic sample optimization (Check). And VSync Prerender limit is set to 0.

Could these few settings alone provide an apparent full FPS boost so drastically?

If not, what could be the cause? I am happy my games are running smooth now but I want to make sure I know why so that I don't lose this performance by accident.

    1) GPU Temperature

I've read a lot of mixed views about this on various forums and I can't seem to find a good enough solid answer.

My card is idling at 45c right now, that is the lowest I've seen it since yesterday.

When playing a demanding game on max it goes up to near 75c I think...

This is all stock, non-overclocked temps.

Unfortunately, my card is situated at the bottom of my PC and it faces the bottom with maybe 15cm at most between its fan and the base of the case, with nothing inbetween. The CPU is not far from it, above it, then the PSU is above that.

There is a lot of heat from the PSU and the GPU and I worry that they're not vented properly, although I do have a very good Lian-Li case, I don't think it is good that my GPU is relying on its factory fan, but if these temps are normal then I won't worry anymore.

What is a temperature threshold that I should worry about?

    Thanks

Your GPU temps are fine. My 8800GTX runs at 84C full pelt (in furmark) and even that is pretty normal for a GPU. If it starts creeping above 90C on a regular basis, then start thinking about doing something with it. But for now (as nibbler said in your other thread), those temps are absolutely fine and you need to stop worrying about it

lol! Okay, okay... I'll stop worrying about it...

In furmark my temps actually were climbing to 101c

It's just a bad position/airflow for the gpu, I think...

Okay well now that the temperature question is solved, how about RivaTuner, anyone?

    Thanks scaryjim.
