    Is this monitor faulty?

EDIT: Problem solved, thanks. It was the Eco sensor that thought I'd gone away because I wasn't standing close enough to the monitor, so it turned it off.

I think that a new 24 inch Benq BL2400PT I've bought is faulty, but I'd appreciate yr views. It's not something I've seen before.

I've tried it on my new system with Win7 Pro 64 bit and my old one with Win XP 32 bit, and the same thing happens on both.
The system boots and displays the BIOS info, then goes into Windows, adjusts to 1920 x 1080, looks fine for half a minute or so, then , a small sundial/timer thing appears in the centre of the screen, it goes round like the fingers of a clock, then the screen goes dead and the no signal green light starts flashing on it.

But if I hot switch my other monitor, the Asus AL1916, 19 inch, into the computer, the windows screen displays as normal, plug the Benq back in, screen displays with timer thing, then goes black .

Same on both computers, different specs, different OS.

Can't be a driver problem as it works initially.

It's the timer thing that's bafflling me, but I guess that must come from within the Benq monitor. But I'd appreciate confirmation that it's not something daft I've missed before I ring Ebuyer and go to the trouble of sending it back.

This is a picture of the timer thing if it helps

    Re: Is this monitor faulty?

I assume you mean the BL2400PT, but it sounds like the "Automatic Eye-Protect Sensor" or the "Around-the-Clock Smart Reminder" kicking in. You should be able to turn that off in the monitor's OSD.

    Bearbear, you're a hero!
Saved me looking a right prat and paying for an unnecessary return too.

I'd totally forgotten about that feature, and there isn't a printed manual so I was going to look at the settings in due course.

    Thanks again :-)

    Re: Is this monitor faulty?

    Haha, no problem

It does sound a bit strange that it kicks in only after half a minute of being plugged in. I guess even if that bit is faulty, if you have no need for it and will always leave it off, then there's no need to return the unit.

By the way, I've been looking to get this monitor, I don't suppose you've tried it with some fast paced games (i.e. first person shooters)? If so, have you noticed any ghosting/trailing or any other response rate issues?

    Re: Is this monitor faulty?

Sorry bearbear, I've only just got the damned thing going at all thanks to the eco sensor!! It was back in the box ready to return :-(

I was putting it on my new rig which I'm building on the floor, so wasn't standing anywhere near it, which was why the sensor turned it off.

Anyway, now I've got it to stay on lol I've set the display settings and it looks really good.

Don't do games myself, and I've seen mixed games reports for this panel. Seems if you like it, it's fine for games, if you take against it, there's a blur.
I've also read that that the quoted responses for TN panels aren't reliable anyway, and the quoted lag on this one is no worse than that.

But if you go for this panel, the BL2400 has a cracking solid adjustable stand - much better than the other flimsier versions of it, and you can twist it thru 90 degrees too.

Sorry I can't be more gaming help.

Yeah I'm liking the look of the BL2400PT because as you say, the stand is an actual stand and not some cheap, flimsy bit of plastic. Also the bezel is matte which means it's not a fingerprint and dust magnet.

Thanks for the quick feedback though, I'm glad you like your monitor and got the problem sorted

Very good now I've stopped it turning itself off :-)

The whole thing is a lot clearer and with nicer colours than my 3 year old Acer 19 inch TN panel - even my wife, who doesn't normally notice, has remarked on it.

Not a gamer though - just using for general browsing, photoshop, excel and watching movies, so like the rest of my high power rig it's probably wasted on me. But the overall impression of clarity is fabulous.
Adn the 24 inch is great too, as it's very useful to have stuff open side by side at the same time.

I'd certainly get the same again.
