Re: GTX 480 vs GTX 570

Seems to me you know the score for both cards, so it's really down to you what matters most. GTX480 is louder, hotter, draws more power, and isn't quite as quick (although it's a very marginal performance difference - for all practical purposes they perform identically). But it'll leave you with an extra £60+ in your pocket, and that's not small change - that's a couple of decent games, or 5 slightly older ones on Steam

Given that you're even considering the GTX480 at all, I'm going to assume that the heat, noise and power considerations aren't that big a concern for you, in which case get the GTX480 and enjoy the same performance as a GTX570 at a fraction of the price

However: is this is an upgrade for your existing rig? I don't think it's worth getting a GTX480 to replace a GTX470, personally. I'd hold off for another generation or so, let nvidia refine fermi properly, let AMD sort their VLIW4 cards properly and think about upgrading in a year's time.

I'm speccing a new PC at the moment and going with the 570 GTX. I'm thinking that it will work better when I hopefully upgrade to two in SLI in a year or so and will be (hopefully) easier to get hold of than a second 480GTX

£65 is quite a lot of money. The 480 also has more memory and the cooler is just as good if you go for the Gigabyte one
