Re: £80 or less card but very confused. Specs included

That combination will be fine IMHO. I would still check what PSU you have ATM though!

Make sure you activate the free postage and look at the following web-pages for special offers:

    http://www.scan.co.uk/todayonly/inde..._icmp=AkaIX3H4

    http://www.scan.co.uk/shops/homepage..._icmp=7Uz238zS

    Edit!!

The PSU is on offer. There is also the 1GB EVGA GTS 450 SC on offer for around £84. It might be faster than an HD5770 1GB but has a longer PCB and consumes more power although the XFX 450W PSU will be fine.

The 1GB EVGA GTS 450 SC will be around 5% slower than the overclocked Asus and EVGA GTS450 cards in this review from my estimates:

    http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/forum...-review-7.html

It still looks like the HD5770 1GB is better value IMHO.

This 5770 is faster than the 450 in games according to Anandtech.

Edit: Just noticed the 'overclocked' part, in which case I'm not sure. But I don't think it would be a game-changing (pun completely intended ) difference either way.

ahaha this is funny The PSU was a no brainer just thinking about the card again now. What say you guys?!

EDIT: I like things with graphs and came across this: http://www.hwcompare.com/7765/geforc...adeon-hd-5770/ but like you say the 450 is overclocked.

Edit2: Forgot to mention, but either of these cards will be OK for my motherboard? I don't know if the mb says anything about PCI2.1

Re: £80 or less card but very confused. Specs included

I know that some of the GTX460 cards were picky with some motherboards and some HD5000 series cards were picky with some CRTs.

    Edit!!

I would also get a right angled sata connector as either cards will be longer than your 8500GT.

I would also make sure you have around 9 inches of space available from the back plate to the front of the hard drive. This is because both cards are around around 8.25" to 8.75" long and need additional clearance for the PCI-E power connector.

Re: £80 or less card but very confused. Specs included

I am not sure whether either card would be appreciably faster than the other TBH.

Anyway, the card is ordered now and it will be a massive step up from an 8500GT!!

EVGA are also meant to have a decent warranty too.

ahaha yes I probably won't be able to ever tell the difference between the two high specs ones but compared to the 8500 GT - fingers crossed

Will let you know how I get on

Re: £80 or less card but very confused. Specs included

I would recommend a Nvidia GT 430 but you already bought the 450, I can play Starcraft 2 well with the texture details up to ultra, the graphics card says 300w but my power supply is only 230w, it still runs fine though and I have had no problems with it.

I would give you a link to where I bought it from but i'm not allowed yet (It's £50) but judging by your specs anything higher may require a more powerful PSU

Re: £80 or less card but very confused. Specs included

Thanks Divine but yes I've already bought the card.

I didn't reply last night because I was like all WOOOOOAAAAHHHHHH! Installed both parts and cnnot belive the difference! It just runs awesome like you would imagine it to. So much so that I played till am and was late for work

The only minor gripe is that I bought a miniHDMI to HDMI connector and my TV just won't recognise the computer and since my TV only has a VGA port I've having to use he DVI-VGA connector.

Thank for the help and advice guys. Off for more Assasins Creed (2).

I have a similar problem with the HDMI ports on my TV - they will only accept 'HD' resolutions, 720p/1080p for example. There is another port labelled HDMI/DVI which will accept other resolutions including the native 1366x768 - check your TV for the same.
